Almost exactly a year ago I finally got tired of feeling lost and not knowing who I was. I lost myself YEARS ago but never noticed until 2 years ago. I didn’t even recognize myself in the mirror. I could barely WALK a 20min mile let alone run a half marathon. Fast forward 6 months, I was running a 9:45 mile, lost 35lbs, and finally felt like I was finding myself. Then I went to support my friend at the SF marathon and thought “if these people can do it, so can I! It can’t be that hard”. That same friend was an asshole convinced me that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to. Training was BRUTAL (I have never been a runner, even though I grew up an athlete) I HATED IT. From shin splits, to tendinitis in my Achilles, my hips and knees were PISSED. But I kept going. I had to prove to myself that I could do this. It in fact was THAT HARD. But I did it. I started with the 3hr group and debated dropping to the 3:30 group. But I remembered what @happytoesadventures always tells me “Just run your race. Stop being a little bitch. Of course it’s hard, if it was easy everyone would be doing it.” (She’s very wise). But it worked. I ran my race, kept my own pace, and stopped being a little bitch. I finished at 2hrs 48min. CRUSHED my goal time. I’m still not the me I was back then, I’m rebuilding a better and stronger version of me and will never again let someone take that away from me. Huge thank you to my bro in law and sis in law for doing this with me! Fun fact: She found out she was running with a stress fracture on her tibia! Thank you to my family for all the support and making the long drive to be there. 🥹 @happytoesadventures you have no clue how big of a role you played in this achievement. 🫶🏽 by @emurillo21
