Today is my mum’s birthday. A praying woman. An intercessor. A marriage counselor. An evangelist. A mother in Israel. My mother, endowed with discerning grace. What a woman. What a mother you are. I love you deeply because you modeled Christ to me through your life.

I still remember my primary school days when mummy would drive us to school, and we would sing and pray on our way — our daily “car morning devotion” because devotion was never to be missed. Along the way, if she saw any child wearing the same school uniform as ours, she would stop and pick them up, whether we knew them or not. Helping others came naturally to her.

In our “small” home back then, we always had several relatives whom mum fed and provided for. On top of that, people came from different churches for marriage counseling. Our home was a place of love, guidance, and refuge.

Mum preached in buses during long trips to and from the eastern part of Nigeria — even in luxurious buses — and still engaged in one-on-one evangelism, all while raising seven children. She received invitations to preach in churches and speak at family seminars, yet never neglected her responsibilities at home. She checked every single homework, ensured we were ready for school, and followed through diligently.

Every summer holiday, she made sure we attended Scripture Union Children’s Camp meetings, all while running several businesses and managing the home, especially during periods when Dad’s job took him out of town. Mum was a disciplinarian to the core — grounded in academics, Christianity, and strong family values. Love, sharing, forgiveness, and integrity were never optional.

She ensured we attended the best schools — private schools in Festac for primary education and Federal Government Colleges for secondary school — always striving to give us the very best.

Did I mention she is also a caterer? She never attended a catering school, yet people came to learn from her. Truly gifted and graced.

There is so much more to say about the sacrifices she made — and still makes. God used you to make me the man I am today.
