POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One of my favourite things I do in the realm of @comebacksnacks is sharing my story. From beginning to now. From prison to speaking on stages all across the country.
And speaking on screens all around the world.

When I was arrested, convicted and sent to prison, I was bound (literally) and determined to do something good with my time. When I started sharing my story in 2019 while I was living in a halfway house, I was still mortified and didn’t think anyone would want to have anything to do with me. But I was wrong.

The opposite happened.

We have all been in some form of prison. But we all are also capable of making comebacks.

@ryancfurlong thank you for making this video.

And thank you to everyone that has brought me on as speaker over the last 5 years that have made my story relatable and valuable in ways I never imagined. by @emz.obrien

After spending four years in federal prison, Emily O’Brien, founder of Comeback Snacks, faced the extraordinary challenge of rebuilding her life and reinventing herself.

But where does someone find the courage to keep going when everything they once knew has changed?

In this powerful conversation, I ask Emily where she finds the strength to rise, reinvent, and keep believing in what’s possible.

Because courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s the decision to keep moving forward anyway.

Emily O’Brien went to federal prison.

While she was there, she started a popcorn company.

Today, Comeback Snacks is sold in thousands of stores across Canada.

And on September 22, she’s telling her story live at The Five Year Plan Season 2 Launch Party. 🎙️🥂

75 people. One room. Food, drinks, music — and a live conversation about a life that went very, very far from the five year plan.

And you’re invited. 🥰

A little Comeback story

I started Comeback Snacks with a simple belief: everyone deserves a second chance.

What began as an idea inspired by my own experience with the justice system has grown into something much bigger a snack company built around creating opportunities, challenging stigma and showing what’s possible when people are given the chance to come back stronger.

There have been plenty of twists, turns and moments where things didn’t go according to plan, but that’s kind of the point of a comeback. You keep going, learn as you go and find the silver lining along the way.

I’m so proud of how far Comeback Snacks has come and incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported this journey, shared our story and snacked with us along the way.

Here’s to second chances and even better comebacks. 💛

“I’m too stubborn for this to beat me.”

That is what Emily O’Brien decided in prison. Not that it was unfair. Not that it was someone else’s fault. She takes full ownership of her part in this conversation, which is rare and which is why the whole thing lands.

She just decided she was going to build something. She didn’t know what yet.

What she built is Comeback Snacks.

The lesson I took from her: every trait you have been told to fix has a better direction to point in. Stubbornness becomes staying power. Rebelliousness becomes refusing to accept the ending someone else wrote for you.
