4A CHAMPION // We’re honoured to have Emma Pham as our next 4A Champion, as we mark 4A’s 30th anniversary celebrations!

Emma Pham (@emz_pham) is an artist whose practice revolves around storytelling and memory, often through game-inspired pixel video work and kitschy animation. Using digital nostalgia as a whimsical point of entry, her practice wrestles with contested histories from an anti-imperial perspective, hoping to forge new pathways from the in-between spaces of culture and history.

Emma first connected with 4A through the 2026 Lunar New Year exhibition ‘An Offering, A Burning, A Prayer’. In this exhibition, she presents two works: ‘Return of the Goddess, Root of my Roots’ (2026), a newly commissioned banner work, and ‘Guardian Mother Spirit in My Computer’ (2023), a single-channel video. Drawing on the Vietnamese spiritual tradition of Đạo Mẫu, these works combine pixel-based imagery, ancestral beliefs and digital aesthetics to explore cultural memory, faith, and connections across generations and diasporic communities.

The 4A Champion Circle brings together artists, alumni and supporters who have helped shape 4A over the past three decades. It’s about legacy, visibility and supporting who comes next.

We’re proud to have Emma Pham as part of the 4A Champion Circle💫

COMING UP // Join us for Opening Night celebrations 🎉

Don’t miss the opening night of An Offering, A Burning, A Prayer this Friday evening from 6pm. The exhibition opens in 4A’s newly renovated space, featuring newly commissioned works inspired by the fierce beauty and transformative power of the Fire Horse. Rooted in rituals of renewal, freedom and radiant self expression, the artists embrace Lunar New Year as a moment of rebirth and forward momentum.

This exhibition includes Guardian Mother Spirit in My Computer 2023, a single channel video work by Emma Pham (@emz_pham). Drawing on Vietnamese animism and the worship of the Mother Goddess Đạo Mẫu, the work depicts an enduring folk religion and spiritual practice through the visual language of pixels. Nostalgic to the artist’s childhood and adolescence, the work connects ancestral ritual to digital space, exploring faith, memory and the experience of diaspora as a lived and evolving ecosystem.

OPENING NIGHT // Join us for Opening Night Celebrations! 🎉

Celebrate Lunar New Year with us on Friday 13 February, 6–8pm, as 4A welcomes the Year of the Fire Horse with the opening night of a major exhibition in 4A’s newly renovated space.

The Year of the Fire Horse marks a time of new beginnings, clearer direction and renewed momentum. The exhibition, titled ‘An Offering, A Burning, A Prayer’ centres on moments of letting go and renewal, focusing on quiet, healing transitions that carry us from one cycle into the next.

Bringing together Asian Australian and Asian artists, the exhibition moves between family, memory and care. Through newly commissioned works alongside key recent pieces, it unfolds across video, installation, sculpture and material based practices. Drawing on ritual, fire and acts of offering, the works approach transformation as something lived and felt, grounded in remembrance, care and the decision to keep moving forward.

The opening night will feature a DJ set by Maggie Tra (@mtra), carrying the night into a shared celebration.

🔥ON NOW AT 4A // February 2026

2026 marks 4A’s 30th anniversary. This February, we welcome Lunar New Year in the blazing spirit of the Fire Horse: bold, luminous and unstoppable. Through exhibitions, performances and a community street parade, the month ahead will be a shared moment of renewal and movement.

🔥An Offering, A Burning, A Prayer

A major exhibition and the centrepiece of our Lunar New Year celebrations, presented across 4A and 4A LAB. Curated by Con Gerakaris (@c.gerakaris), the exhibition brings together key works and newly commissioned pieces by Choy Ka Fai (@choy_kafai), Casey Chen (@yesac.nehc), WeiZen Ho (@weizenho), Emma Pham (@emz_pham), Jason Phu (@jasonphuu), and Savanhdary Vongpoothorn (@savanhdary_vongpoothorn_). Grounded in ideas of renewal, freedom, and radiant self-expression, the exhibition approaches Lunar New Year as a moment of rebirth and transformation.

🔥 Exhibition Opening Night

The exhibition opens with a public opening event that welcomes the Year of the Fire Horse through sound, celebration and shared presence. The evening will move from reflection to release, before flowing into a DJ set by Maggie Tra (@mtra), transforming the gallery into a vibrant, collective celebration.

🔥Performance activations

WeiZen Ho (@weizenho) will be embarking on ritual cleansing performances throughout the duration of An Offering, A Burning, A Prayer. Join us every Saturday 2pm to reflect on 4A’s bespoke building transformations, as WeiZen performs with demolition material remnants.

🔥Street Banner Parade

The celebrations will spill onto the streets with a community banner parade led by Jason Phu (@jasonphuu) and friends from The Kogarah Storehouse (@the_kogarah_storehouse), including the Chinese Seniors Group, Indonesian Activity Group and TENUN Art Group. Carried through Haymarket and Chinatown, the parade transforms our streets into a collective expression of culture, movement and joy.

When you visit 4A, share what you see and how it feels, and tag @4A_aus, and we’ll pick one favourites each month to gift a 4A canvas tote 🐎🔥

We welcomed Kirsten (@kirstysdeliveryservice), Kobra (@cobrawithak), Emma (@emz_pham) and Cass (@cass.hnrs) into our team and our space at FCHQ last Wednesday by spending some slow time together sharing food, coffee, divining our own futures and beginning to plan our next nine months together. Miranda Aguilar (@mirandaaa831), program producer, guided us all through creating a social contract together to set our intentions and ways of working.
