“If one were only an Indian, instantly alert,
and on a racing horse, leaning against the
wind, kept on quivering jerkily over the quivering ground, until one shed one’s spurs,
for there needed no spurs, threw away the reins, for there needed no reins, and
hardly saw that the land before one was smoothly shorn heath when horse’s neck
and head would be already gone”. Franz Kafka , The Wish To Be A Red Indian.

The world we encounter is already in motion, indifferent to our arrival. Figures mid-gesture,
colors at the point of rupture, symbols that arrive already half-dissolved. There is no entry, no
threshold. One is simply inside.
It is there, in the thick of it, that Kafka’s fragment begins to work itself loose. A rider sheds his
spurs. Then his reins. Then the ground beneath him, then the horse, until what remains is
something language can point toward but never quite hold. A wish, pure and unfastened,
moving without need of direction. A single sentence that undoes itself as it goes, and so
does the canvas.

Following an interior necessity that precedes reason, Granoth’s figures inhabit a space
where the unconscious sets the terms, where bold color carries the weight of instinct rather
than intention, where the childlike and the disquieting coexist without resolution. His figures
are many, and yet each one feels like a fragment of the same restless self. Fractured,
distributed, unresolved. Leaving in its wake not meaning but the sensation of meaning,
something that was almost said, almost seen, almost caught before it changed shape again.
