ENCHANTED HOURS | SPRING 2026 EDITION

We had so much fun hosting our Enchanted Hours social reading events at Moondrop, we're going to be a regular for the entire Spring!

Every last Wednesday of the month, come join fellow readers and sip on delicious cocktails (and mocktails).

Slight format change, due to what I've observed.

Readers will still have time to read, but now for 1.5 hours, with the remaining 30 minutes set aside for making connections (completely optional for those who want to keep reading for the whole 2 hours) πŸ€—

October has a special co-star, and it will be a DCC themed event (coinciding with Halloween), so tell all your Crawler friends!

Welcome to Enchanted Table πŸ’š

There's been quite a lot of new people that have joined us over the week, and there's no better time to give you all a bit more information on what a retreat with us can look like.

If you want to be the first to know when and where the retreat takes place, and don't want to miss out, join the guestlist. Spaces are very limited!

Carling all Crawlers and the curious,

October's Enchanted Hours will be Dungeon Crawler Carl themed.

If you've read, listened, or heard about the DCC-verse, you won't want to miss this social reading event.

Come and re-read, re-listen, or discover this world. DCC has taken the world by storm (IMHO), and it follows a story where a man in his boxers together with his Persian cat survive during a violent alien takeover. It's unhinged, hilarious, thrilling, terrifying, sad, but ultimately wholesome. The main characters represent the best and worst of humanity.

We will read for an hour, sip on cocktails (Dirty Shirleys waiting), then mingle, chat, and get to know other readers. You don't have to read DCC, but you may leave wanting to read all 8 books after πŸ˜…

Come alone, come with friends, come with book club friends!

Have you ever been curious about attending a social reading event? πŸ€”

Reading in public? At a bar? With strangers?

Through @enchantedtable.au, I currently host Enchanted Hours, a social reading event where people come together to read their latest fantasy/sci-fi books, grab a drink, have a snack, and build genuine connections with each other.

Two hours where you won't be doom scrolling. Two hours where you get to do something you love with no judgement.

The last two sessions for 2026 are locked in, October 28th and November 25th, at Moondrop Bar, Fitzroy πŸ₯³

Come solo, come with friends, we're all strangers until we're not πŸ€—

🎟 via Humanitix $35pp (10% discount when you buy 2 or more!)

September was a busy month, but thanks to the long weekend here in Melbourne, I managed to catch up on a whole lot of reading!

How did you do in September?

I started the Saints of Steel Series sometime in July and loved the stories of middle aged Paladins in search of love. I then discovered that I had skipped ahead and should have started with the Clocktaur duology, startinf with Clockwork Boys.

Which continued on to The Wonder Engine.

T Kingfisher does a great job in her world building and creation of a religion that does good, via the Temple of the White Rat.

Swordheart continues in the same universe and vein, with more middle-aged appropriate romance, complete with enchanted swords 😘

The fourth in the Saints of Steel Series provides a continuation to the lost paladins and their journey in redemption and love.

We had this book chosen for my Carnegie SFF book club, and boy was it a divisive one. The consensus was that the prose and writing style wasn't popular but the storyline was.

It took me 2 weeks to finish it, and I came close to DNFquite a lot. I'm glad I finished it, as the twist at the end was worth it, but it may be a while before I pick up the next book in the series.

And so we come to ACOTAR. I needed a popcorn romance story after Gideon The Ninth, and boy did this deliver.

I went in with no research or background as I've purposefully buried my head in the same when in came to this series.

So my surprise that this was a retelling of Beauty & The Beast (of sorts) was interesting.

But I'm glad I continued on with the story. The first book was predictable, and the second was a good growth arc for the characters.

Possibly my least favourite of the series as the entire war storyline was written so poorly.

Having grown up with epic fantasies that focus on long drawn wars and movements of armies (e.g. LOTR, Belgariad, Wheel of Time, Riftwar), the BIG war scene in this book just did not cut the mustard.

Completely unrealistic even in realms of fantasy!

I call this the Christmas filler.

My favourite of the series so far, and I'm glad that there is a change of perspectives here. And it gets much spicier!!

Two Enchanted Hours in, and there's really something magical about this space I've created. Seeing people come along with their books, reading at their cosy corners, it warms my heart.

Some come with friends, some come solo, but all come with the intent to travel into their own magical worlds.

Thank you to everyone who has come along to my events so far, and special shout out to the @moondropbar for allowing me to live my dream!

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT TO COME! πŸ’š

Some came solo, some came with friends, and all left richer for the experience!

Houston, we have a problem!

I've run out of shelf space and I'm not going to have space to fit Book 9 and 10 of DCC when they are released 😭

Question: Do I move the books from those who may no longer be named to make space for authors who have behaved?

Third book club done!! Rewarding myself with a Carrot Cake Gelato!

Hosting book clubs is really fun, and as an ambivert, I love the interactions, but also need the downtime after.

Anyone else out there the same? 🀭 taken in Carnegie, Melbourne by @enchantedtable.au

An update on our inaugural retreat that was planned for September.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we won't be able to go ahead this year, but we will be rescheduling for 2027.

Following the ethos of Enchanted Table, we would rather slow down to get things right than to rush it.

Thank you for your support along our journey so far.

Enchanted Table will continue to build on our community of readers, and other literary events in the meantime.
