Thank you to everyone who came out to our Annual Fire Department Open House, even with the heat! ☀️ We loved seeing so many families, meeting our community, and sharing a day at the fire station.

We asked some of our youngest visitors what they enjoyed most—and they had plenty to say!

Thanks for making this year’s Open House a great one! ❤️ by @encinitasfiredept

🔋 Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere—but they can be a fire risk when used or charged improperly.

A few simple habits can help keep you and your home safe:

• Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
• Don’t charge batteries on beds, couches, or other soft surfaces.
• Unplug devices once they’re fully charged.
• Keep batteries away from extreme heat.
• Stop using a battery if it’s swollen, damaged, leaking, or unusually hot.
• Never throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or recycling bin.

⚠️ If a battery starts smoking, swelling, or catches fire, get outside and call 911.

🚨 False Fire Alarm Reduction Program

In 2025, Encinitas Fire responded to 493 false fire alarms. To help reduce nuisance alarms and keep firefighters available for true emergencies, the City of Encinitas is implementing a new False Fire Alarm Reduction Program beginning October 1, 2026.

The first two nuisance alarms within a rolling 12-month period are free. Fees begin with the third alarm and increase with additional occurrences.

🔹 1st & 2nd: No charge
🔹 3rd: $75
🔹 4th: $150
🔹 5th: $250
🔹 6th+: $500

Annual fire alarm maintenance is recommended and remains the responsibility of the property owner.

Today, we remember September 11, 2001.

On the 25th anniversary, we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost and remember the families, friends, first responders, and communities forever impacted by that day.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember, reflect, and honor those who were lost.

Never Forget. 🇺🇸 by @encinitasfiredept

Our lifeguards have been “guarding hard” all summer long through elevated surf, changing weather, and busy crowds! Did you know ocean lifeguards are now formally recognized by the State of California as first responders? We are lucky to have our team who continues to demonstrate a commitment to service, training, hard work, and professionalism within our community every day. taken in Encinitas, California by @encinitasfiredept

On August 13 the City of Encinitas strengthened its emergency preparedness through a full-scale earthquake exercise involving 110 City staff.

Staff responded to a simulated magnitude 6.9 earthquake along the Rose Canyon Fault Zone, practicing how the City and regional partners would coordinate during the critical hours following a major disaster.

The exercise tested response efforts including:
🔥 Fire, rescue and law enforcement coordination
🏡 Damage assessments and shelter operations for residents and pets
📢 Timely public information and emergency communications
🛠️ Resource requests and regional coordination
🌊 Response to coastal impacts, including potential bluff failures

The exercise was conducted in partnership with the cities of Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside and San Marcos, along with the County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services, SDG&E, Caltrans, San Diego County Water Authority and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Preparedness starts before an emergency happens. Earthquakes can strike without warning, and outside assistance may take several days or longer to arrive.

Make sure your household is ready:
💧 Keep at least 72 hours of water, food and medications on hand.
📱 Create a family communication plan.
🛠️ Know how to shut off your utilities.
🏡 Secure heavy items in your home.
