Encore Venture Labs welcomes Carrie Murphy as our third Entrepreneur in Residence.

Carrie brings more than 15 years of experience in talent development, executive search, and workforce innovation — expertise that directly supports EVL’s mission to connect Cleveland’s industrial heritage with its future.

She has launched the careers of over 1,500 entrepreneurs through Venture For America, led recruitment at firms like Daversa Partners and Goldman Sachs, and worked with organizations ranging from Vertical Knowledge to high-growth startups. Her career has shown the impact of putting the right talent in the right roles — a focus that will be invaluable as EVL tackles Industry 4.0 workforce challenges.

Carrie’s passion for building a 21st-century talent pipeline will help fuel Cleveland’s reindustrialization and strengthen the next generation of innovative companies.

🚀 The EVL team is growing.

We’re proud to welcome David Boone Jr. as our second Entrepreneur in Residence.

A Cleveland native, David’s path has taken him from MC2 STEM High School to Harvard, to Microsoft where he managed data science teams working on cloud computing, data architecture, and advanced language model applications. In 2020, he co-founded BlendEd, a Cleveland-based EdTech company that raised $1.4M to help professors build and monetize courses. He is also deeply committed to workforce development, helping high schoolers transition into skilled careers.

At Encore Venture Labs, David will focus on building ventures in digital marketplaces, AI, and workforce development — connecting Cleveland’s talent and industrial strengths with emerging technologies.

We’re proud to welcome Adam Barber as our first Entrepreneur in Residence.

Adam brings a rare mix of military leadership, engineering expertise, and a deep commitment to driving economic growth in the Midwest. Raised in Nelsonville, Ohio, his path has taken him from Apache helicopter pilot and company commander to MIT, where he earned both an MBA and MS in Mechanical Engineering as a Tillman Scholar. His work has spanned machine learning models for EV energy demand at National Grid to leadership roles in advanced manufacturing with Accelevation LLC and LFM Capital.

At Encore Venture Labs, Adam will help build ventures that connect Ohio’s industrial strengths with cutting-edge technologies shaping the future of manufacturing.
