We’re a broad coalition of over 100 organisations campaigning for energy efficient homes, decent incomes and low cost energy for households.

Households need affordable energy. North Sea workers need a secure future. Jackdaw and Rosebank cannot provide a lasting answer to either challenge.

The oil and gas from these fields would be sold at international market prices, leaving households exposed to the same volatile fossil fuel markets.

The North Sea is declining whatever happens to these projects. Over 90% of commercially viable oil and gas has already been extracted. The longer we rely on gas to heat our homes, the more we will depend on imports.

Workers and communities deserve a credible plan for what comes next: investment in warmer homes, renewable power, market reforms and the grid connections needed to bring it to households. taken in United Kingdom by @endfuelpoverty

Axing You and Yours means BBC bosses are cutting off another strong voice for energy customers across the UK.

From forced prepayment meters and the Radio Teleswitch (RTS) switch-off to Winter Fuel Payments and energy scams, You and Yours has shone a light on energy issues affecting millions of people.

Given that energy giants have made over £125 billion from their UK operations since the energy bills crisis began, scrutiny of the industry, practical advice and a platform for people struggling with their bills is essential.

We’re calling on the BBC’s Director-General and Board to save You and Yours, protect its place in the Radio 4 schedule and grow its impact and reach through the BBC’s digital channels.

Help protect this vital voice for consumers. Sign and share the petition:

Bringing heating oil under proper regulation is a step in the right direction for rural households who have been left to fend for themselves every time global oil prices spike.

Reports that the Government will regulate the market are welcome, but as the days get colder households need a clear timetable for when these protections will take effect.

Heat pump grants are a real chance for households to move away from volatile fossil fuels, so reports of the Chancellor raiding these funds in the upcoming budget raise serious concerns about leaving families exposed to future price shocks.

Households need a route away from volatile gas prices. Cutting support for heat pumps will only make that harder.

The answer is to target the Boiler Upgrade Scheme better, to help households who can’t afford the upfront costs, including those in rural areas, to get off the gas grid.

A referral route through healthcare professionals, energy advisers and social workers could help support reach those who need it most.

In the upcoming budget the Chancellor must protect clean heating support and back the Warm Homes Plan in full. taken in United Kingdom by @endfuelpoverty

Are fixed deals worth it?

Only a handful of fixed energy deals remain below the current price cap.

According to @uswitchuk data, six fixed deals beat the current cap, while 39 come in below forecasts for January.

Concerned about gas reaching 10p per kWh?
Uswitch’s data shows 46 fixed dual-fuel deals with gas rates below that level in every region. But a lower gas rate alone doesn’t guarantee a cheaper overall bill.

What should I look for?
If you’re considering fixing, compare the full deal using your own energy usage, including electricity rates and standing charges. Deals can change quickly, so time may be running out to secure a competitive rate.

But also check the exit fees before committing. Prices could fall in April or July 2027, and a low exit fee could make it easier to switch again if a cheaper deal becomes available. Check whether the fee applies separately to gas and electricity, and weigh it against any potential savings. by @endfuelpoverty

New Resolution Foundation research reveals the scale of the cost-of-living crisis, with the poorest households cutting back most on energy and falling further behind on essential bills.

Our exposure to volatile gas prices keeps households trapped in a cycle of unaffordable energy costs.

The upcoming budget must deliver help that reaches everyone who needs it, including struggling households outside the means-tested benefits system.

Health professionals, social workers and debt advisers should be able to refer people directly into energy bill support. An Emergency Heat Tariff should be put in place, ready to protect households from further rises in heating costs this winter.

Lasting relief means breaking the link between electricity prices and gas, upgrading cold homes and investing in cheaper, homegrown renewables.

Energy scams reach far beyond the figures published by Trading Standards Scotland, with UK-wide scams that range from bogus offers of “free” insulation to fake messages about the Warm Home Discount.

Scammers exploit concerns about bills, posing as energy suppliers, councils or government schemes. They also undermine trust in genuine help that could make homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

Be wary of unexpected messages, requests for bank details and pressure to agree to work immediately. Don’t click suspicious links. Check offers independently with your energy supplier, Citizens Advice or a trusted local advice service, using contact details you find yourself.

Dave is a British Army veteran on a mission: to futureproof his home for his wife.

After discovering he had terminal cancer, Dave had solar panels installed at his home using a grant from Heat Essex.
The government is helping hundreds of homes in Essex receive energy saving improvements through the Warm Homes Local Grant Scheme.

Now, Dave says he feels safe in the knowledge that his wife will be looked after should the worst happen, with electricity, income and ‘hot water on tap’.

Is this the kind of mission you could get behind? taken in Essex, England, UK by @endfuelpoverty

New research by American universities found concerning levels of air pollution linked to using gas to cook with, even with extraction running.

While the study focused on commercial kitchens, it raises important questions that matter in our homes too.

Safety at home, clean air inside and low cost energy must go together. Households - like businesses - need support with the upfront costs of switching to electricity from gas, alongside energy policy that makes electricity affordable to use.

Protecting health is another strand of the case for moving beyond gas. Nobody should be priced out of cleaner cooking.

66% of British adults say the government needs to do more to tackle energy costs, according to polling by More in Common for the @jrf_uk.

We’ve joined trade unions, think tanks and campaign groups, including @neweconomicsfoundation, in signing a joint letter to the Chancellor, coordinated by @costoflivingaction, calling for energy support for all households alongside targeted help for those most in need.

The upcoming Budget must deliver emergency energy support this winter, with extra help for those most at risk and action to write off crisis-era energy debts.

Alongside immediate relief, we need lasting reform to break the link between gas and electricity prices and bring bills down for good.
