The HDB where you instinctively say "excuse me" before you enter the lift 👻

This is Tampines Greenvines.

It is beautifully splashed with vibrant shades of red, yellow and purple-blue.
Inspired by tropical fruits - dragonfruit, mango, and mangosteen (wait why is it blue???), it was initially thoughtfully designed to facilitate way-finding.

But back in 2023, some residents shared that the fully-painted crimson red lobbies were too intense, and the estate quickly became viral on the internet with divided opinions. Many commented the choice of color made the building look haunted and eerie, while others praised the creative direction of newer BTO designs.

HDB took feedback from the residents seriously and repainted the walls and ceilings white, but still kept the red tiles.

We paid a visit there and to our surprise it was actually so cute!!! 🍎🥭🫐

A landed house cheaper than most HDB flats??
But with a catch!!!

Today we're here at Jln Chempaka Kuning! Last transacted at $400k a few months back, most landed houses here actually have leases expiring in 2034. That's less than 8 years left!

From penniless immigrant to King of Katong 👑

Chew Joo Chiat arrived in Singapore in 1877 with nothing. And decades later, he became one of the richest landowners in the east.

Despite the wealth, Chew Joo Chiat never owned a car. He preferred walking to his own plantations daily.

Joo Chiat had quite a glow up since: from farmland, to a red-light district in the 2000s, to now being Singapore's first Heritage Town.

Next time you're in Joo Chiat, you're basically walking through King of Katong's backyard 😝
