You’re in the right place! by @energisewitheva

An incredible day filled with inspirational people, organisations and movements who are all committed to making tangible change in dance.

The @nidms.uk and @onedanceuk Body Image Perspectives conference showcased organisations already educating and researching: @hungry2move, @project.red_d , @thebodyprojectdancers, @imperfectpointes , @sizeinclusivity and @growingupindance
All definitely worth a follow!

We also got to hear from @dav_donnelly during his keynote on his lived experience of disordered eating, recovery journey and brilliant career at The Royal Ballet.

I am so grateful for the invitation to share my story alongside the brilliant Project RED-D team and want to thank Karen Sheriff and Suki McConnon for their warm welcome. We presented twice to audiences across healthcare, educators, dance company leaders, researchers and dancers. I’m so pleased to have witnessed the interest and commitment from them all for change. I loved answering their questions around what could be changed in terms of prevention, education and diagnosis. by @energisewitheva

So excited to share I will be attending the ‘Body Perspectives: Re-evaluating the ideal body image in dance’ event tomorrow, Monday 26th October at Elmhurst Ballet School.

Karen Sheriff, founder of Project RED-D, will lead the ‘Understanding REDs in Dancers’ session and I will be sharing my lived experience 🪫 by @energisewitheva

I wanted to share more about my role as Ambassador for Project RED-D and why I’m keen to raise awareness about RED-D (Relative Energy Deficiency in Dance). by @energisewitheva

Our latest ambassador to Project RED-D, Eva-Maria Sumner, pushed through exhaustion and pain for years, believing it meant commitment.

Now she's in recovery and rebuilding her relationship with dance ❤️

It’s true that REDs (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) brought my life to a complete stop.

Just to name a few, I couldn’t:
🧠 Focus
🏋️‍♀️ Train
🩰 Dance
💤 Sleep

But I’m now back to training and dancing in the studio. by @energisewitheva

Escaped to the middle of nowhere and had a chance to pause, reset habits and explore 🗺️ by @energisewitheva

I think this is what pure happiness feels like ☀️

Worked a total of five shifts, in black, in the heat and still standing

My boy 🐾

A daily occurrence! Only had a few in the past week maybe eight?

6am shifts have me feeling like this

Breakfast on top 🤏🏼

Dog walk a day keeps him happy in every way

Made another batch of my famous granola. It disappears so quickly in this household

Oh go on, have another one… by @energisewitheva

It’s that time again for a REDs review…

What are the chances? I booked the appointment three months ago and now it’s one of the hottest days in London!

Back at the start of my journey, this clinic was the first location I visited with clinicians specialised in REDs and sports medicine. Their expertise was very comforting as no one could previously understand the range of symptoms I was experiencing. However, this team knew exactly what steps were needed to be diagnosed, treated and what support I required ❤️‍🩹 by @energisewitheva

🪫 drained and symptoms appearing in all aspects of my life. REDs impacts multiple body systems, so in hindsight it’s no surprise that my body was giving me ‘clues’ in increasing ways…

Taking a step back from training to allow my body to move from survival mode to recovery was the first milestone.

I imagined REDs recovery to be entirely different to what it has been. So here are some things I have learned along the way! by @energisewitheva

These are some of the symptoms that I experienced every day. My 🪫 was well and truly drained.

REDs impacts multiple body systems and the body responds by conserving ‘battery power’ by slowing or shutting down non-essential processes.

(I have lived experience of REDs but am not a medical professional or an expert in REDs) by @energisewitheva
