Reflective moment: I personally think it’s NUTS that I have a part 2 cos what clock was I working on!?! We calll it layersSSS hunTY💅🏾✨

If you’ve been wondering what INWED is, it’s a global campaign that gives women engineers around the world a profile when they are still hugely under-represented. 2021 figures indicate that in the UK only 16.5% of engineers are women and 0.7% are BLACK WOMEN🧍🏾‍♀️.

As the only platform of its kind, it plays a vital role in encouraging more young women and girls to take up engineering careers!

After volunteering in a high school yesterday I preached about staying multifaceted and taking risks. I presented with the aim of reminding these young girls from 4 different schools that you can be anything you want to be.

Unfortunately, in this world, you can’t be what you can’t see so that’s why I use all my platforms to constantly remind anyone that needs to hear it!

So here’s your reminder that you can always wear multiple hats no matter what your “main thing” is. Be multifaceted, mix your interests and share your many passions out loud! Yes I’m an engineer 9-5 and I LOVE it but I’m so much more and I enjoy doing so much more than that!

We’re delighted to welcome Nyasha as a speaker at AFBELive 2026.

@ is a Graduate Civil Engineer whose career has been defined by resilience, leadership and a commitment to creating a more inclusive engineering profession.

Her relationship with AFBELive began in 2022, when she attended the conference through sponsorship. It was a moment that transformed her confidence and helped her see that she truly belonged in the industry. She returned in 2024 as runner-up in the Next Big Idea competition, further growing her network and strengthening her belief in the impact of her voice.

Her journey hasn’t been straightforward. After graduating, leading her Students’ Association as its first Black woman and first engineering student President, and completing an industry placement she faced a year of unemployment. Throughout that period she remained determined, drawing strength from communities like AFBE UK and continuing to invest in her growth.

Today, Nyasha is using her platform to mentor, speak and inspire the next generation of engineers, sharing honest experiences that remind others they belong in engineering too.

She returns to the AFBELive stage as a speaker. Join us at AFBELive 2026 to hear Nyasha’s story and the lessons she’s learned along the way.

As a young girl, my parents moved our family to the UK to give us more opportunities in life. Along with adapting to a new environment, the language barrier was one of my biggest challenges. English felt incredibly difficult, but maths came naturally.

No matter where I was, I could always understand the language of maths.
That’s why I was always confused when adults would tell me not to pursue maths or physics because they were “too hard for girls.” Why would you say that to a little girl and not a little boy? Why is engineering seen as a great option for boys, but not for girls?

I never understood it then, and I still don’t now.

This is just a reminder that you can’t judge a book by its cover, engineering looks like sooo many different things on a day-to-day! Since coming into my new-ish role, I’ve become so aware that I could be working in such different ways week to week. I could be doing a day site visit or a night shift on site starting at 10pm and finishing as late as 6am but I could also be working on 1 construction scheme design on AutoCAD for more than 40+ hrs at my desk until approval. I love the mix and it opens so many doors to how I want to work in the future. For now I’m making the most of my engineering experience inside and outside the office, being involved in everything and anything I can.

Let me know if you want to see some different day in the life POVs!

Send this to a woman in STEM who ‘s on their last hurdle 🥹⚙️✨

Queen listen, keep holding on, the end is near. It’ll be over before you know it and you KNOW it. You’ve come soooo far and honestly it will be worth it. It might get a little hard sometimes and you will definitely question yourself and why you decided of ALLLLL the careers you could’ve done!?!?! Why engineering… well I’ll tell you why.

You chose engineering because you DESERVE to be here and you WANT to be here. Engineering needs women like you and there is always room for an engineering baddie like YOU🫵🏾 🧱😘💅🏾✨

Keep slaying baby girl 🫶🏾

Hello hi, I’m Ash and I created engbaddie as a place to showcase the girlies in engineering thriving (including myself tehe🤭💅🏾✨).

Uni was hard and felt quite isolating at times and the course was already hard so I often questioned what I was doing there in the first place! Failing fluid mechanics was SUCH a deserved crash out, TWICEEE, to this day I’m grateful I passed lool but even that wasn’t going to stop me.

PLUS, coming from an all-girls grammar school, engineering was not the desired IT girl career… less than 5 girls in my year actually decided to pursue it in a sea of future doctors, vets, lawyers and scientists. I loved maths and science but I was also really creative so soon enough I realised this was a space I could do it all. And if I had to be the first to do it then so be it!

When and why did you consider engineering to be the one for you?

🚶🏾‍♀️STEP BY STEP🚶🏾‍♀️

How is it the end of November already!?! As we look forward to the last month and a bit of the year 2024 (wtf?¿!), I can’t help but look back at what a crazy year it has been for me. Tested my limits but I’m glad we keep going everyday. I’m not the best at processing my experiences but I sure am grateful that my journey is mine and that I’m on my way to be a better version of me. I hope to keep reminding myself that I am enough and that I’m doing enough professionally and emotionally. Remind yourself too! Step by step we can create the life we want.

DONT FORGET TO SHARE THIS WITH YOUR BESTIE TO REMIND THEM THEY’RE DOING GREAT🫶🏾
