Behind every new feature launch, ad campaign, and polished ‘ask a surveyor’ video (we know you love them)… is a lot of planning, problem solving, and figuring things out as we go.

Life as a startup means wearing multiple hats and building as you learn.

For Survey Shack, that means finding new ways to make property inspections more accessible, educational, and easier to understand for buyers and sellers alike.

A little behind the scenes from our latest shoot with Annabelle from Sigrid Media and Jack from Engels Productions vs the finished result.

We believe the UK property system needs a shakeup. Help us get the word out.

Belgravia hasn’t always been the neighbourhood we see today.

A few centuries ago this area was known as the Five Fields. The open marshland stretching towards the River Westbourne was a place Londoners were warned not to cross after dark.

But everything changed in the late 1600s when the estate passed to Sir Thomas Grosvenor, a landowner from Cheshire, through his marriage to Mary Davies, who had inherited the land as a child.

That marriage quietly reshaped the map of the area.

Instead of the old names of the Five Fields, Belgravia’s streets Eaton, Eccleston, Chester were named after places connected to the Grosvenor family’s ancestral lands in Cheshire.

Belgravia may feel quintessentially London, but its street names tell a very different story. by @engelsproductions

Trellick Tower is a perfect example of how London property can divide opinion.

On Golborne Road near Notting Hill, it was completed in 1972 and was once the tallest residential building in Europe.

Designed by Ernő Goldfinger as a bold social housing experiment, the vision was simple: community living, elevated walkways and a new way of thinking about urban property.

For some, it disrupted a peaceful West London skyline. For others, it became an architectural landmark and a symbol of social ambition.

Today the building is Grade II* listed and some flats sell for close to £1m, proof that in London, perspective and property values evolve with time.

Love it or not, it’s firmly woven into the fabric of Notting Hill’s property story. taken in Notting Hill, London by @engelsproductions

Let’s talk about how to catch attention at the beginning of your videos.

If the first few seconds don't create curiosity, the rest won't get heard. A hook shouldn't explain everything but it does need to make someone pause.

It might be a visual moment that interrupts the scroll, or a hyperbolic question (think 2000s tabloid headline, but not offensive).

“New instruction in Mayfair” shares information. It feels like work. “Is this London’s most expensive address?” creates drama.

If your content isn't landing in the way you hoped, it probably isn't the quality of what you are saying, it's how you begin.

Tip: if you're stuck on hooks, film the whole video first and then shoot the first line at the end! by @engelsproductions

...is the press dead?

For PropTechs, brokerages and property brands targeting referral partners in the industry, such as mortgage brokers, having others talk about you often shapes perception in a way self promotion simply cannot.

The right piece in the right industry publication can quietly build credibility, trust and awareness long before a conversation even begins.

It is also a direct route into the inboxes of the people you want to reach most.

When approached properly, industry press becomes useful marketing content and part of your wider brand story.

However, tread carefully when wording your successes. Share genuine updates, avoid exaggeration and let the story speak for itself.
