Join us again tomorrow at Creative Junction for these lush sunset moments at @estuaryloungediani 🥰
All artists, talents and levels welcome.

Creative Junction was created as a platform for artists living or visiting diani. I wanted to curate a space for community, for networking, for practice and exposure. A safe space where artisits can feel at home no matter how far from home they are. We are just at the beginning of this journey and can't wait to see where we go with things ♥️

See you there tomorrow ✨️

No one ever gave a voice to the voiceless so I had to claim mine.
This is my tagline
I exist because I resist
Survival is my badge of honour.
When you look at me you see past me
Coz you cant see my past and you never really asked
So let me introduce you to this outcast
I've nearly died more than once so I guess I'm running out of lives still
I have no regrets coz everyday I strive to be a better me.

Thank you to @forrestmvnk for riding the wave of this performance with me and @pallet_cafe_diani for giving us a beautiful space to step into my power.

It was my first time performing as a singer and a poet. Truly leaning into my capacity as a storyteller. Weaving words in rhythm and rhyme.

So blessed to share my voice which is finally breaking out ♥️ taken in Diani Beach, Mombasa, Kenya by @engenoi

Happy World Poetry Day! The safest spaces I've found in my life through all my different journeys in different contexts have been Black poetry spaces. Thank you to all the incredible poets I've met in the last few years. You all continue to inspire me every single day with how we continue to make our art relevant and revolutionary ✊🏽✊🏽

You can access a small collection of my work on my brand new website which I built myself over the last 2 months www.engenoi.com ❤️ (yes I build websites too)

Link is in my bio!

And Peep my podcast on YouTube @ healinginharmony. I shot this clip in my first episode and I'll be doing a lot more with this once we get our feet down from this relocation.

In the mean time, I'm resting when I can and setting my feet down in this new culture and space 🙏
Moving across the continent has been a much tougher journey than I could have prepared for 😅

I did it anyway- yoga isn’t about perfection - it’s about breath and movement and reconnecting. After so many months of unbearable pain and not being able to get on my mat I finally made it! It’s like starting all over again… but that’s what having a baby does- back to the beginning. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but I did it anyway ✨

Our last week in the UK. 7 months in England and it’s finally time to get ready for our new chapter. It’s been such in interesting journey - especially the part where I’ve realised I’m not just over it, I’m above it. This place will always be somewhere I overcame.

Also fuck the hosepipe ban- I can proudly report that I have personally laid witness to the absolute fall of empire. They don’t even have water here. And they also don’t have AC coz they’d rather just stink. I’m sure many of them don’t even shower daily and they say it’s for the environment 😂. The environment includes your sweaty armpits Betty.

But also fuck @british_airways can’t wait to never have to use them again.

Vive la Rèsistance ✊🏾

My son bought me these beautiful sunflowers yesterday after demolishing the house because he had big feelings about coming back home after spending a month in a 5* hotel penthouse with butlers and room service. Pray for me but more importantly buy me my flowers 😂

I can do hard things and make them look easy 💪

But for real I know he’s just missing daddy @marcwatum

Happy two month birthday Lionel Zaire
You came early and I know you weren’t ready but you saved both of our lives. I spent that first month fighting for my life with you beside me through it all ❤️You will forever be the one who taught me to put myself first. You’ve changed everything for our little family and we are so happy to have you ❤️ Thank you for validating me everyday- with you I am unstoppable and stronger than ever before ❤️ by @engenoi

After a 2 hour unexpected labour nearly three weeks early, I brought my second born son earthside in what felt like a complete contrast to my first. He was born in the complete darkness of my bathroom and we definitely didn’t have time for any pictures, music or lights- a proper deep submersion into the womb space.

I thought it right to reset the space and my body through a closing of the bones ceremony which is a postpartum ceremony honouring the transition into motherhood — a time to be held, wrapped, prayed over, and gently restored after birth.

This experience meant so much to me because it brought two parts of my world together: traditional postpartum care rooted in feminine healing rituals, and the warmth, colour, strength, and my own Maasai lineage- bridging different cultures through honouring my matresence.

The fabrics, the wrapping, the stillness, the presence of women holding space — it all reminded me that healing after birth was never meant to happen alone.

This was finally a moment to close, ground, and call my spirit back home after bringing life into the world. ✨

Welcome home baby Z, we were so ready for you 😂❤️ (in theory)

Motherhood has stretched me in ways I didn’t know I could bend- the early arrival of our second and my hospitalisation right after brought back so many wounds from childhood where my own mother took my health for granted- moments where my illness was minimised up to the point I was in critical condition- one of those scars will never heal as a fracture I had was never treated and has become a permanent problem in my adult life. But this one is minimal compared to the other traumas I experienced with my health growing up.

Becoming severely unwell right after giving birth to my second made me realise that as a result of the neglect I experienced as a child, I learnt to push myself to my absolute limits- I felt unwell the week I went into labour but I shrugged it off as one of my many chronic pain symptoms and even gone to the gym the day I went into labour. I was ill- but instead of slowing down I pushed harder - coz that was what was always expected of me. To the point I was doing laundry the morning my son was born.

Truth is, this is what is expected of many mothers- to push through pain, push through illness, push through for everyone else at our own expense.

Starting this journey as a mother of two has made me realise that I’m already stretched - my body is already stretched - I don’t need to be stretched any further than I am.

This comes off the back of a pregnancy where I largely had to support myself- where I had to hold strong boundaries and move cautiously, guided by intuition at the expense of many relationships fading into the ethers quietly - a season of quiet wisdom where in case you’re wondering about where we stand, we probably don’t stand together. A season of being questioned constantly about my perceived lack of planning- only to respond with “it’s Gods plan”. A season of quiet surrender- of submission to spirit.

In this journey I’m just so grateful that I get to be the mother I never had. I get to heal my inner child by loving my children. Happy Mother’s Day to all the women raising their children without their mothers. Without a blueprint of what motherhood should look like. We are enough ❤️

What a ride, round two has had as many ups and downs as round 1. Making the choice to have a second wasn’t straight forward because we had to consider the reality of hyperemesis gravadirum (#hg) which affects 3 in 100 women 😭😂
My first trimester was brutal- I was severely sick and spent weekends in the ER with my son on drips as we didn’t have my husband around for most of the pregnancy and I had very little support in South Africa. I carried a lot of this on my own- barely able to keep food down- extreme fatigue and headaches and just trying to survive everyday and show up for my son. Things got so much better in Kenya with the vomiting (and my friends 🥹) although I did end up needing drips once. But the second trimester is when the chronic pain creeps in and by the third, I’m crippled. Scoliosis in my lumbar means these last few weeks I’m barely able to walk from the extreme pain and load of carrying 90th percentile babies.

People keep telling me I’m so blessed and I should be grateful- but talking about these challenges doesn’t make me ungrateful for the lives I’ve been chosen to bring forth. I’m allowed to feel terrible about feeling terrible and I’m allowed to never want to put my body and mind through this again- but Louis wanted a baby brother so bad 😂

The reality is that pregnancy isn’t one size fits all- we all struggle with different things and just because we carry it well doesn’t mean we are not struggling- I’ve learnt to move through the pain- to dance through the sadness and to hold myself in high esteem for managing this load without family or a support network to hold me and my son. I wouldn’t wish this type of journey on any one- but we make great sacrifices for our children and the one me and @marcwatum have made only God knows. Even on my knees I give thanks for the enormous strength it takes to be me. And to do it so gracefully - you go girl 👏 I’m actually amazing
