“My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.”
‭‭James‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
This applies directly to the job. Just teaching to hear yourself talk is no excuse to teach. We should hold ourselves and those we teach with to the highest standard possible, not just allowing anyone who has watched a YouTube video talk down on those who are trying to learn. We need to be teaching from a place of humility with a willingness to help bring up those around us not from a place of judgement and ego when they fail. Be hard on your students because you care and harder on your cadre 👊 by @enginemisfit

Don’t tell me there isn’t a problem when we have a guys who can’t mask up with gloves on, don’t tell me there isn’t a problem when we have firemen who are too out of shape to do a 360 without being winded. Don’t tell me there isn’t a problem when we have pages and companies that are selling products and ideas to turn a profit off being a “firefighter” instead of making the job better! We have a problem, you can sit behind follower counts and scam people all you want but that’s not what we do here. You can continue to have others around you pick up the slack on the fire ground, but that’s not what we do here. The job in most of the country needs a revival and it starts with you changing your habits and convictions. Buy in, be present and do your fucking job. Get to work 👊 by @enginemisfit

He’s been my fourth man in the fire - time after time 🙏

The more you lean in - the greater the support. That’s my experience.

What you accomplished yesterday means nothing today. The highest performing athletes and firemen I know treat everyday as a new day to win, they do not fall back on what they have already accomplished, they push forward to what they will accomplish. This is the mindset of a winner, someone who truly holds the standard and strives to become the best version of themselves everyday. I implore you to become that version of yourself! The one who doesn’t care how good they are right now but how good they will be tomorrow. Get to work👊 by @enginemisfit

Nobody truly understands the amount of perseverance this job takes, in the beginning you are wrapped up with recruit Academy, the excitement of probation, the nervousness, the feelings that come with going to your first call, your first Fire and as the years progress, those feelings fade and the hard work that we have built upon is what carries us through. Very many find themselves in a dark place in year 3, 4 and 5 because they were unwilling to put the work in upfront to build a great career for themselves. They were living on the feeling of being a firefighter instead of actually being one. The discipline that it takes! How you feel about this job will come and go, there will be many highs and many lows. Set yourself up for success early and stop caring about how the job makes you feel and focus on how you can make the job better. Get to work👊 by @enginemisfit

Elevate those around you, it is so easy to focus on just yourself and keep everything for you. The experience, the streets, the workouts that make only you better. But what good does that do the fire service? If we never pass along what we have learned and help others around us grow into better firemen and leaders we have left the job a much worse place than we found it. We must let the egos go, it’s no longer about looking like the best as we gate keep information that only lifts us up. Elevate those around you so the next generation loves the job the way you do. One day the job might truly die if we do nothing to nurture the next generation to love it. Get to work 👊 by @enginemisfit
