🌍 Planet Watch Voices : Episode 7
Tête Rousse glacier, France

💧In 2010, glaciologists discovered a large amount of water trapped inside the glacier that had to be drained to prevent a catastrophe in the village downstream. In the Alps, glaciers are experiencing rapid changes in thermal conditions, which affect the temperature of the ice. As a result, some of them are becoming warmer upstream than downstream. The melted ice forms droplets that, over time, create large cavities where water remains trapped against the colder ice.

Last year, a pocket of water drained naturally, raising the question of what might have happened if the pressure had continued to build without being released. Under such conditions, a flash flood could occur, which could have significant consequences for the environment and the communities living in the valley.

To anticipate these risks of glacier destabilization in the future, Olivier and Malo, from the Institute of Environmental Geosciences (IGE), continuously monitor surface movements of the Tête Rousse Glacier. As a part of the Planet Watch by Enlaps initiative, they are using the Tikee 4 camera to monitor their site.

🙏 A special thanks to the IGE members that worked on this glacier : Julien Brondex (Researcher and co-advisor for the thesis), Mylène BONNEFOY-DEMONGEOT (Research Engineer), Fabien Gillet-Chaulet (Research Associate), Olivier Gagliardini (Professor), Victor Ramseyer (Research Technician), Emmanuel Thibert (Research Associate)

In the past month I’ve been testing the new @enlaps Tikee Mini S!
Same design and functionalities of the previous model, but with few new improvements that makes it super easy to frame and set up any timelapse in less than 60s!

Enlaps has been regularly updating their Tikee cameras over the last years: after the 4X it’s now time for the mini to get un upgrade! They sent me the new mini S, and here are some quick impressions. Lots of nice improvements and I’m slowly running out of complaints! If you need to shoot timelapse videos for events or long term projects and monitor them, this is the easiest way.

📷 A few days at the heart of a strategic mobility project next to our offices in Isère, France.

Located very close to the Enlaps’ offices, the construction of a new bridge has just been finished with a key stage in its building: the bridge sliding operation.

This is an impressive feat of engineering that involves assembling the bridge on land before sliding it very slowly into its final position above the river.

This precise and impressive manoeuvre was captured from every angle thanks to the installation of three Tikee cameras: one Tikee 4X and two Tikee mini+.

➡️ Over 19,000 photos were captured, one every 30 seconds between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., to create a complete project timelapse that preserves a record of every key stage in this major transformation.

We are proud to put our technology at the service of local stakeholders, capturing the transformation of our local infrastructure.
