Upcoming | Curator: Kang-Ywe Lyau | Grooving & Resonance — Fok Wai Chung × I-Chun Chen Duo Exhibition

Fok Wai Chung holds two master’s degrees: a Master of Buddhist Studies from the University of Hong Kong, and a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Having long immersed herself in Eastern traditional aesthetics, she travelled to Shangri‑La to study Re‑gong thangka after graduation, and visited Nepal to conduct in‑depth research into the material vocabulary and spiritual dimensions of ancient Asian painting.

Drawing on the aesthetic principles of Chinese fine‑line painting and technical expertise acquired through thangka practice, she synthesises their colour‑setting, compositional logic and inherent philosophy. Breaking free from established stylistic constraints, she has forged a distinct creative language. Her works are held in major private collections and private‑bank collections across the region and internationally. In 2016 she founded her art studio, where she continues her creative research and arts‑outreach practice.

She works on cotton supports, preparing her own ground by mixing deer‑hide glue with gypsum powder. She predominantly uses traditional thangka mineral pigments, with titanium white from Chinese painting as her only white pigment, lending her surfaces a subtle luminosity that shifts with light. Unlike traditional glue‑based colour media, which rely on heavy layered application and permit little colour mixing, she grinds mineral pigments to an extra‑fine consistency. Through the interwoven techniques of flat washes and stippling, she expands her chromatic range, using material texture to articulate inner spiritual sensibilities.

The opening reception will take place at 15:00 on 17 October. Artist Fok Wai Chung and curator Kang‑Ywe Lyau will be present to lead exhibition tours. All are welcome.

Upcoming | Curator: Lyau Kang-Ywe | Grooving & Resonance — Fok Wai Chung × I-Chun Chen Duo Exhibition

Enlighten Gallery is honored to invite veteran collector and art critic Lyau Kang‑Ywe as curator of Grooving & Resonance, a two‑person exhibition by Fok Wai Chung and I‑Chun Chen. Long observing global and Taiwanese art markets, Lyau breaks free from the common “traditional/contemporary” binary, reimagining the venue as a perceptual field with no fixed rhythm.

Fok Wai Chung, versed in thangka painting, weaves subconsciousness, spirituality, memory and emotion into flora, celestial bodies and imaginary realms to build a meticulous, introspective painterly world. I‑Chun Chen, whose practice spans moving‑image, animation, digital and AI‑driven media, returns to hand‑drawing for this show. She distills travel, sound, speed and bodily perception into a fresh pictorial language.

As the curator notes: “The stillness in Fok Wai Chung’s work contains vitality; the movement in I‑Chun Chen’s work is filled with sincerity. Fok Wai Chung’s classicism is not merely nostalgic; it is a belief in transforming the present toward beauty and goodness. I‑Chun Chen’s contemporaneity and technology affirm embodiment in human art. Divergent as their concerns and styles seem, they converge like musical counterpoint into harmony.”

Stepping from art commentary into curatorial practice, Lyau channels long‑term reflections on art and individual spiritual experience into this exhibition of open‑ended sensory resonance.

At 3:00 p.m. on October 17, the gallery, together with the artists and curator, warmly welcomes you to experience this special encounter.

當期展覽 Current Exhibition| 何以寄天真——水口和紀個展Where Innocence Resides — Kazuki Mizuguchi Solo Exhibition

Kazuki Mizuguchi (b. 1973, Tokyo) lives and works in Tokyo. He graduated from the Japanese‑Painting Department at Musashino Art University, where he specialised in mineral‑based iwazai and nikawa‑glue painting media. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions across Japan and Taiwan. His works are cherished by collectors for their serene and far‑reaching atmosphere.

His artistic practice carries a quiet, restrained quality of yūgen. He weaves lotus ponds, moonlight, plants and personal memories into his paintings. Impressions of his hometown, along with landscapes and perceptions gathered from travels abroad, evoke reflections on inner authenticity and innocence amid nature’s cycles of flourishing and decay. Through layered glazes of mineral pigments, he builds calm, soft semi‑realistic scenes that reveal the unique expressive potential of Nihonga materials. Between material texture, inner sentiment and the viewer, he unfolds Japanese aesthetics marked by lingering resonance.

Upcoming|水口和紀Mizuguchi Kazuki|何以寄天真 Where Innocence Resides

Following the enthusiastic response from collectors and audiences to Kazuki Mizuguchi’s previous solo exhibition, we are honored to welcome his second solo exhibition in Taiwan.

Specializing in Japanese painting (Nihonga), Kazuki Mizuguchi has a deep understanding of the essence of Japanese aesthetics and skillfully transforms it into an expressive visual language.

For this new body of work, the artist draws upon lotus ponds, moonlight, and vegetation as subjects. Beginning with memories of lotus fields in his hometown of Fukui, Japan, and extending to scenes observed in Taipei, these works capture fleeting moments of the present.

Through the subtle layering and blending of mineral pigments, Mizuguchi creates enigmatic and poetic images that explore an aesthetic question: where can one’s true self and innate innocence find a place to rest?

The Opening Reception will be held on August 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM. The artist will be personally present and will lead a guided tour of the exhibition. We warmly welcome you to join us!
