🟥 Thirteen years behind bars for “high treason against Russia” in occupied Mariupol

A Russian-controlled court sentenced a 20-year-old Ukrainian from occupied Mariupol to 13 years in prison for alleged “high treason.”

🟥 Accused of “treason” by occupiers

• Russian occupation authorities claim that Viktoria Maksymenko, a twenty-year-old resident of occupied Mariupol, passed information to Ukrainian intelligence about the deployment of Russian National Guard units.
• According to investigators, the information could have been used “against the security of the Russian Federation.”
• The trial was held behind closed doors, and neither the evidence nor the details of the case have been disclosed.

🟥 She loved drawing and books

• Viktoria Maksymenko was arrested by Russian occupiers in Mariupol on November 20, 2025.
• She was transferred to occupied Donetsk and held in SIZO-1 pretrial detention center.
• Before her arrest she lived an ordinary life: she enjoyed drawing, reading detective novels as well as works by Jack London and Stephen King, cooking, and helping animals.

🟥 Repressions under occupation

• Russian-controlled courts in occupied territories regularly hand down severe sentences on fabricated charges of “treason” and “espionage.”• Such cases are used to intimidate the local Ukrainian population and suppress any form of dissent.• Under the Geneva Conventions, residents of occupied territories cannot be charged with treason against an occupying power; such prosecutions constitute a serious violation of international law.

🟩 Formal equality isn’t enough

"We, nationals of a big nation, have nearly always been guilty [...] of an infinite number of cases of violence. [...] Internationalism on the part of oppressors or 'great' nations, as they are called [...], must consist not only in the observance of the formal equality of nations but even in an inequality imposed on the oppressor nation, the great nation, that must make up for the inequality which obtains in actual practice."

🟦 Russian-run schools are systematically erasing Ukrainian identity in occupied areas - HRW

Russian occupying authorities are forcing Ukrainian children into a school system designed to erase their Ukrainian identity and promote loyalty to Russia, Human Rights Watch reports.

🟦 Indoctrination and militarization

Russian-run schools under occupation completely exclude Ukrainian language instruction, Human Rights Watch reports.

Children are subjected to intense anti-Ukraine propaganda, forced to sing the Russian anthem, write letters to Russian soldiers, and attend militarized “patriotic” lessons.

Boys are pressured or forced to register for Russian military conscription through the school system.

🟦 Methods of coercion

Russian armed personnel conduct raids on homes searching for Ukrainian educational materials.

Children and parents face threats of separation or placement in Russian institutions if they refuse Russian schools.

Teachers who deviate from Russian narratives risk dismissal or persecution.

Many children who escape occupied territories show severe psychological trauma and require long-term support.

🟦 International law violations

These practices violate children’s right to education, preservation of identity, and protection from propaganda and militarization under international humanitarian law.

HRW calls on Russia to immediately stop forced Russification and allow Ukrainian curriculum.

Governments should keep pressure on Russia to end these systematic violations.

🟦 Serbia deepens military ties with Israel

Serbia's government—one of the most pro-Russian regimes in Europe—has increased its arms exports to Israel 42-fold since 2023, despite the genocide in Gaza.

🟦 New Serbia–Israel defence deal

• Serbia and Israel signed an agreement on the exchange of classified defence information, facilitating arms transfers.
• In 2025, Serbia signed a $1.6 billion contract for drones, long-range missiles, and electronic warfare from Israeli company Elbit Systems.
• Elbit had previously supplied Serbia with artillery and drones worth $335 million.
• Serbia plans to manufacture drones with Elbit Systems on its territory.

🟦 Expanding military cooperation

• Serbian arms exports to Israel rose from €2.7 million in 2023 to €114 million in 2025.
• The agreement allows the exchange of classified information between the two countries’ defence ministries.
• It also provides for the mutual protection of classified information on arms sales and military technologies.
• Serbia’s opposition has criticized the deal over the possibility that Serbian-made weapons could be used in Gaza.

🟦 Getting along with Israel and Russia

• Serbia is simultaneously cooperating with two aggressors—Israel and Russia.
• Belgrade continues to refuse sanctions against Russia and remains one of Moscow’s closest partners in Europe.
• Serbia continues to purchase Russian weapons, maintain stable imports of Russian gas, and emphasizes its “historical ties.”
• Belgrade expresses explicit support for Israel and refuses to condemn war crimes in Gaza.

🟥 Russia is deliberately targeting hospitals in Ukraine – MSF

According to Doctors Without Borders (MSF), more than 20 Ukrainian medical facilities have been deliberately attacked since the start of the invasion.

🟥 A deliberate strategy

An investigation by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) found that attacks on Ukraine's healthcare system and medical personnel are part of a "deliberate strategy."

"These strikes are too systematic, too frequent, and too precise to be accidental," said MSF's Ukraine coordinator, Robin Meldrum.

According to him, when hospitals are struck repeatedly or ambulances are targeted by drones, it is not coincidence but a pattern that indicates intent.

🟥 Key findings

According to the report No Safe Place to Heal, more than 20 medical facilities were attacked between April 2022 and December 2025.

Four hospitals supported by MSF were destroyed, while seven ambulance stations were forced to cease operations.

The growing use of FPV drones has further increased the threat, allowing operators to select targets in real time.

🟥 Call to stop Russia's attacks

Under international humanitarian law, deliberately targeting medical personnel, healthcare facilities, or medical transport constitutes a war crime.

Ten years ago, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2286, condemning attacks on medical facilities, healthcare workers, and patients.

"States with influence over Russia must use it to bring these attacks on healthcare facilities to an end," the organization said.

⬛️ Erasing the continuum

"When you are on the mainland, occupation erases the evidence of your existence — or rather, of the fact that you once began, because the gravestones with your surname remain there, while here they are not yet. Occupation is a state of permanent temporariness and of frozen time."

⬜️ Five treaties violated by Russia in Ukraine

Moscow claims that Kyiv's policies triggered the invasion. Yet Russia had unconditionally recognized Ukraine's territorial integrity in a series of treaties. It violated them all.

[...]

⬜️ The unconditional nature

All of these treaties contained Russian commitments to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity. Unconditionally. What does that mean?

If Ukraine moved closer to military alliances... If Ukraine changed its language policy or constitution... Even if, hypothetically, a coup took place in Ukraine and a dictatorship came to power...

None of these scenarios gave Russia the right to invade, occupy territory, or annex parts of Ukraine. By signing these agreements, Russia committed itself not to do so. Under any circumstances. by @ens.ukraine

🟨 Washington vows to “dismantle” ICC, which issued arrest warrants for Putin and Netanyahu

Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, declares that the United States will work to dismantle the International Criminal Court, which prosecutes war criminals.

🟨 Attack on the ICC

Rubio said the International Criminal Court is waging a war against the US “not with bullets or missiles,” but with “the force of so-called international law.”

“Using every tool available to our government, and working with every ally we can align with, we will dismantle the ICC brick by brick if we have to. Countries that refuse to reject the ICC’s false authority, while still relying on US assistance, are likely to face heightened scrutiny,” he said.

🟨 EU defends the court

Anouar El Anouni, an EU spokesperson, has pushed back against the Trump administration.

“We stand firm in our support for the international criminal court (ICC). Attacks or threats against the court, elected officials, personnel or those cooperating with the court are simply not acceptable.”

El Anouni pointed to the court’s role in pursuing the perpetrators of some of the world’s gravest crimes, from genocide to war crimes.

🟨 Warrants for Putin and Netanyahu

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin in March 2023 for the unlawful deportation and transfer of Ukrainian children.

In May 2024, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.

Both warrants remain active, making Putin and Netanyahu internationally wanted persons.
