That’s a wrap on Week 6 of the UITC Cosmetology and Carpentry Academy! 🎉

For their final week of instruction, our young ladies were still learning, building, and creating. Monday’s carpentry and automotive session had them working together to build a wall frame. On Tuesday, they practiced the art of finger waves and rod sets during cosmetology.

These six weeks have been filled with hands-on learning, laughter, confidence-building, sisterhood, and new experiences. The summer academy may be coming to an end, but the connections we’ve built and the possibilities ahead are only beginning.

And we’re not completely done yet, our final trip is still to come! 💛 by @entertain_me

From learning how to change door locks and challenging Student Teachers to threading needles and carefully sewing in weave, our days are filled with moments our girls will remember. Our girls even had the pleasure of spending a day with Miss Cheyney University herself, Najah Brown, learning the importance of Presence, Professionalism and Purpose👑 We want our girls to knock down any door standing in their way…and change the locks while they’re at🪛💅🏾 Thank you so much @misscheyneyuniv for joining us to help build the girl’s confidence while demonstrating what opportunities are possible when you have great presence and dress for success! Here is what the young ladies in our @unityinthecommunity Summer Program was up to this week:

CARPENTRY/AUTOMOTIVE
-drills depths,
-more measurements,
-staple guns
-how to open hoods
-positives/negative colors

COSMETOLOGY
-installing extended ponytails
-creative finishing touches challenge

They went on a trip to the Beat the Bomb Amusement Center.

Our girls program is having an awesome time this Summer. Last Friday , the young ladies from our Carpentry & Cosmetology program , put the tools down and had a night out on the town. The young women dressed up in all white and had dinner at @aminaphilly restaurant at 1002 Germantown Avenue! The purpose of this was to show our young women what fine dining looks like here in Philadelphia , while supporting African American businesses in our community. Thank you to @_girlstrip_ for the transportation for the young women and @hassandhuss2018 for assiting us with setting this up.

Its important that we lead by example and show our young ladies the right way! Thank you to the team @diradiva

Here is our week three recap from our Cosmetology, Carpentry and Automotive Program with our young ladies.
This week, the students built their own salon stations, learned how to measure to the nearest quarter, practiced how to safely jump-start and test a car battery, and learned how to identify and understand car tire sizes.

Thank you to @neodaviso and his entire team for inviting our young ladies from our Carpentry & Cosmetology program to @footlocker to purchase them some new sneakers , and they donated $7,500.00 to our Summer Programming. We appreciate the love and support. A big S/O to the other amazing organizations that received the donations as well.

This weekend our young men and women from or Carpentry, Cosmetology and Automotive program had the opportunity to hang out at Millennium Skating Rink.They had an awesome time. We were able to provide them with transportation , dinner and admission into the Skating Rink.

We believe in the idea of providing opportunities and safe spaces for our young people. by @entertain_me

The young women from our Carpentry & Cosmetology Summer class had a chance to learn about measurements, drills , wrenches , built mini houses , learned how to braid and learned about the basic tools of automotive.

They just wrapped up their second week , and they are off to a great start. Thank you to our entire @unityinthecommunity staff for making this program awesome for our young women. Thank you to @kineatha_stylezme for teaching our young ladies how to braid. We appreciate you.

This week we kicked off our "Carpentry & Cosmetology " Summer program with our young women , which is led by our program manager @diradiva . The young ladies had the opportunity to learn about cosmetology from their instructor @tashadastylist , and Mr.Gregg gave them an overview of the Carpentry Program. In addition to that , @entertain_me is teaching self development to the young women.

I never knew I needed a husband until I said “I do” to you.

Yes, we spent many years together, but there’s something about making a covenant before God that shifted our relationship and allowed me to see that I now need you in a way I never understood before.

Most people say they don’t need anyone else, but I know I need you. I’m grateful for the life you have, the love you give, and the man you continue to be every day. I’m excited to see what the future brings you and how you’ll continue to make an impact wherever you go.

I look forward to building a life with you that is worth talking about, a life full of purpose, laughter, growth, and memories we'll tell stories about for years to come.
