The Biggest Obstacle to Recycling ➡️ Seporating Materials

When items are put in the wrong bin or dirty food containers end up in the recycling bin, recyclables can become contaminated. This can prevent large batches of material from being recycled.

That is why the Environmental Student Organization strives to educate the Mississippi College student body on how to recycle, and the organization provides simple recycling options on campus. by @environmental.student.org.mc

The Challenges in Recycling Plastics,

Mixed materials
-> Plastic products are often made up of multiple materials that are difficult to separate. That is why we separate clear plastic bottles from other types of plastics.

Contamination
->Non-recyclable materials, such as food residue, liquids, or other plastics, can mix with recyclable materials. That's why it's best to wrinse out bottles before recycling.

Lack of clarity
-> Resin codes may mislead consumers to believe all resin code #1 plastics are recyclable together. That is not the case, depending on the method of manufacturing. That is why we separate plastic bottles from thermo form plastics such as clam-shell plastic containers. Think of the difference between those two as a boiled egg vs. a pan-fried egg. by @environmental.student.org.mc
