My final work made during the Rabanne Arts Factory initiative. I’m so grateful for this opportunity, so thank you both @dazed and @rabanne for providing young artists with a platform to create! 💖🙂‍↕️🦭

These are my submitted notes on the piece:

*
I draw inspiration from the sci-fi writers Octavia E. Butler and Margaret Atwood.

Cult Sci-Fi films (like Alien) showcase despairing worlds that are built around the aesthetics and architecture of the female anatomy. Spaces are often constructed from womb-like corridors and pulsing walls. These landscapes are grim in vision; dark, bleak, machine-like and ominous. I want to challenge this by creating my own sculptures of fiction that are comparatively glowing and full of life.

I return to the question of:

How do we unveil the delusions (fathered by societies dominated by masculine consciousness) of the feminine and the mother. For me the sculpture ‘Ninti’ has become an attempt to answer that.

The work is titled ‘Ninti’, named after a Sumerian childbirth-goddess who later became the inspiration for the notion that Adam possessed some magic birth-giving rib. Ninti means ‘lady of the rib’, ti alluded to both rib and life and, therefore, she was also the lady of life.

This sculpture is my idol of femininity, without human form.
She is present in all of us - but belongs to a future that has yet to come…

Thank you again @rabanne @dazed
