👋 Hey EOP Family!

Following along with our series, we are so excited to announce another member of our Honorary Committee who will be featured at our EOP 60th Anniversary Celebration!

Jenny Soojean Kwon, a UC Berkeley Alum, is currently the Assistant Chancellor and Chief of Staff to the Chancellor of UC Law San Francisco. Prior to joining UC Law SF, Dr. Kwon, served as Associate Chief to Staff to the Chancellor at UC Berkeley.

During Dr. Kwon’s undergrad experience, she found community and support within EOP. Swipe more to read about Dr. Kwon’s experience with the EOP program.

👋 Hey EOP Family!

Continuing on our trip down memory lane, this #ThrowbackThursday focuses on EOP’s resistance in challenging systems to ensure our community members have an academic journey that is filled with equality and opportunity.

Here is a timeline of EOP’s Historical Efforts during the 1960s and 1970s:

1966: The Educational Opportunity Program is introduced at UC Berkeley as a faculty initiative to address the issue of low-income students, particularly minority students, entering and graduating from University in disproportionately small numbers.

1973: EOP decentralized so students could access services across Student Affair units, Office of Admissions, Financial Aid, and Student Learning Centers.

1974: EOP pioneers a Peer Advising Program to aid students in their transition to Berkeley.

1976: EOP merges with the Student Learning Center to increase student retention and frequency of contacts between counselors and students. Additionally, the Chancellor’s office integrates the Affirmative Action student population with EOP.
