I’ve gotten several questions about my time in Alaska, so I thought I would answer them all here! It was truly an incredible experience, and I still think about it almost every day even almost a year later. If you’re ever looking for an incredible summer job, I highly recommend!

I get a lot of people asking me about how I have time for so many different adventures, so I thought I would share some tips for making time while still working full time or being a full time student.

Here are six tips:

1. Work hard, play hard. I’m currently working 44 hours, so just over full time. Working a few extra hours a week has allowed me to live with a little margin, which I have never really experienced before. Even if you’re just working part time, count any extra hours you’re able to get as an opportunity to earn some money for your adventure fund.

2. Save money for gas. A lot of people spend money on things like eating out, going to the movies, shopping, etc. I have found that when I avoid spending money on some of those things, I’m able to set aside money for gas instead. It frees up a lot of opportunity to use some of that money in more meaningful ways. I also typically always choose dispersed camping and car camping over a campground which can save around $20-30 per day that can go towards gas.

3. Avoid eating out. Whenever I go camping or on road trips, I always avoid eating out. This can save as much as $30 a day. I have a pocket rocket stove, so I like to find really cheap things like oatmeal and ramen to bring along the trip which cuts the cost down to closer to $5 a day.

4. Find like-minded friends. Finding friends who are also seeking adventure can such a good motivation to make some new memories. It can be so much more fun to explore new places when you have friends with you that are equally excited. It’s also such an easy way to cut down the costs as things like gas money or park entry fees can be split up.

5. Capitalize on weekends. I have two jobs right now. One of them only schedules me for weekends sometimes, and I specifically requested to have weekends off for the other job. This frees up a lot of weekends for me to go do fun things. Especially with living in such a central state, there are so many fun places to visit that can be fit into a weekend trip.

6. Take small adventures too. Not every adventure has to be big. Sometimes an afternoon hike or a day trip can be just as rejuvenating. by @epearson11
