From ~2005. The biggest yellow garden orb weaver spider I've ever encountered. Just compare it to the size of the adult dragonfly it caught. Had it's web in a prime spot overlooking a pond.

Old macro photo from around 2005 when I was completely and utterly obsessed with photographing insects and bugs of all kinds! I believe this is a Mining Bee. There was a patch of bare ground on a path with dozens of small holes, with things flying in and out of them. So I got down to take a closer look and this is what I saw. These particular bees build underground chambers for their young, from what I understand.

Photos captured from behind a window of this American red fox apparently finding the perfect peaceful & safe spot in our backyard to get some sleep for ~3-4 hours from ~11AM, when we first noticed it cleaning itself, to ~2PM. I tried opening a window for a cleaner photograph, but even the slightest sound of the window barely being opened spooked it. It left momentarily, but after I stopped and it realized it was safe, it circled back to the exact same spot. These are quite common here in Pennsylvania, at least. There are probably about 2-4 in the area. A year or two ago we saw 2 younger ones with an adult. Maybe this is one of the younger ones, now older? Who knows! It has protection behind it in the form of neighbors' fences and some brush, to the left and right it can see all the other yards, and in the 2nd and 3rd photos it's looking between our and our neighbor's house towards the street and beyond. FYI we don't feed the wildlife, except for the one time I put out wildlife feed and captured racoons and deer with a night vision camera.

These photos were taken with the wrong camera settings (slow shutter speed = blurry movement), perhaps a happy accident, but regardless... they illustrate an interesting behavior I noticed with these Ruby-crowned Kinglets where they can hover momentarily, almost like Hummingbirds. Or maybe all small birds can do this and I just never noticed!
