Happy Flex Block Friday! 🏛️

Over the past two weeks, every ninth-grade Civics class took learning beyond the classroom with a trip to the National Mall. At the Lincoln, Vietnam Veterans, and World War II memorials, students reflected on why civics matters, the sacrifices made to protect and strengthen our democracy, and the importance of honoring those who served. by @episcopalhs

Our 9th-grade students recently returned from Burch! This annual outdoor bonding trip gives our freshmen the chance to step out of their comfort zones and learn what it means to rely on one another as a team through backpacking, canoeing, and rock climbing. This week marked our first McCain-Ravenel Center Day of the year! The theme for our 2026-27 MRC Days is Expanding Efficacy.

For day one, students heard from keynote speaker Howard Hoege, a U.S. Army veteran, former Senate investigative counsel, as well as representatives from the World Leadership School. All members of the community then jumped into a Purpose Summit where they dedicated time to understanding and defining their own personal purpose statements in preparation for authentically expanding their efficacy throughout the year. An afternoon of service learning followed.

Following up on his 2025 Youth World Sailing Championship run, Erik J. ’28 is back on the world stage representing Team Bahamas! At just 15 years old, he competed as the youngest angler at the 2026 Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica. Erik hauled in 4 sailfish to earn the title of #1 2026 Offshore Junior Angler and rank 111th overall globally. Way to go, Erik! 🎣🏆 by @episcopalhs

Honoring the 25th anniversary of 9/11 at Episcopal High School. On Friday before kickoff at the Hummel Bowl, our community paused to raise the Freedom Flag, Virginia’s official flag of remembrance. We stood together in solemn reflection to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to pay tribute to the resilience of our nation.

We were deeply honored to recognize members of our own EHS team who served as first responders on that historic day: Director of Safety & Security Stafford Farmer-Lee (Pentagon response with Alexandria Police Department) and Assistant Director Garnell Stewart (Arlington County Police Department).

Our gratitude extends to Friday’s honorary captains representing the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office, Alexandria Fire Department, and Alexandria Police Department. Thank you to all the first responders who answer the call every day to keep our communities safe.
