EPOC Studios recently held its first Work In Progress panel discussion, bringing together Adam Schwab of EPOC Studios, Jack Manson Jr. of HMDD, and Andrew Anabi of Pool House New York to talk about building brands from the ground up. The conversation explored creativity, authenticity, navigating uncertainty, and what it really takes to create something with longevity.

One of the most interesting parts of the discussion was hearing how each founder approached the same topics from a completely different perspective. While their paths, priorities, and philosophies vary, many of their ideas ultimately point in the same direction. Seeing where those perspectives overlap and where they differ shows that there isn’t one blueprint for building a brand. There are countless ways to create something meaningful, and hearing those different approaches side by side offers a broader understanding of what that journey can look like.

We’ve compiled a few select quotes and takeaways from the panel discussion and hope everyone who attended left inspired and motivated to build that next thing. Keep an eye out for the next Work In Progress event, many more to come. by @epocwip

From the moment you land on 2022dirt’s page, it’s clear the tone is different. While many pages rely on nostalgia or celebrity to drive engagement, @2022dirt takes a more intimate approach. The draw comes from how human it feels. It almost feels like you could be the one posting, everyday moments, photos of pets, screenshots, and quiet details that feel pulled from someone’s camera roll rather than staged content. That familiarity makes scrolling through the page feel effortless.

What stood out most in the Q&A was how closely his answers aligned with the energy of the page itself. There’s a natural warmth in the way he responds that makes it clear the feeling you get while scrolling isn’t curated or constructed. It’s just him. Even the images he chose for the slides feel personal and natural, reinforcing that the page is less about performance and more about presence.

2022dirt is a reflection that there are real people behind these pages. The feelings you get while scrolling are not random, they come directly from the people running them. In many ways, each page becomes an extension of who they are. It’s a reminder to stay true to who you are, because that will always come through in what you create.

Who are the individuals behind the accounts shaping social media culture? What drives them beyond the feed? Who are they offline?

We spend so much time consuming content, engaging, and sharing posts with friends and peers while others’ subtly shape the latest trends and aesthetics. The biggest culture accounts influence the tone of the timeline and, in many ways, define the general taste and interests of the everyday person. But while we know their grids, we rarely know who their operators are.

It’s easy to reduce curation and moodboard pages to followers and engagements, but there are real people driving them, building the connections and shaping culture online. With this, we want to explore the people behind the machine, getting a glimpse of how they think, what inspires them, and how they move through the world outside of the algorithm.

@dondasplace has consistently gone beyond surface-level curation, digging deeper into connecting the dots and references through music, fashion, and events. To kick off this series, we look into their intention, perspective, and a mind that sees an ecosystem, not just the aesthetic. by @epocwip

“Breaking rules isn’t interesting. It’s making up new ones that keeps things exciting.” — Christopher Nolan

Creativity has never really been about simply ignoring what came before. Breaking an existing rule can be a good place to start, but the more interesting work often comes from creating an entirely new set of rules and then seeing how far they can be pushed.

Whether it’s in film, fashion, art, music, or design, limitations don’t always restrict creativity. Sometimes they give it direction. A new process, a different way of working, or a decision to approach something from an angle no one else has considered can become the foundation for an entirely new visual language.

The goal isn’t always to break the rules. Sometimes it’s to create a world where different rules apply.

Charts, graphs, and diagrams by artist Rina Nicolae.

These might be some of the most charming charts we’ve seen. Taking something usually associated with data, analysis, and information, Nicolae turns it into something playful, personal, and unexpectedly funny.

Lake House by Ultra Architects (2021)

Positioned above the lake on a gently sloping site, the house is organized as three separate forms that come together around a central, leveled outdoor platform. A curved retaining wall anchors the composition, helping the building adapt to the natural terrain.

The structure is built from timber and wrapped in corrugated anodized aluminum, giving it the appearance of a collection of boat sheds or waterfront hangars. That connection to the lake is more than visual, with one of the three volumes dedicated entirely to storing watercraft. The remaining spaces contain the home’s living areas and bedrooms, creating a direct relationship between daily life, the landscape, and the water.

Hudson Hawk (1991) is a surreal action comedy directed by Michael Lehmann and starring Bruce Willis as Eddie “Hudson Hawk” Hawkins, a master cat burglar who is forced into stealing priceless Leonardo da Vinci inventions for a wealthy conspiracy involving global domination. Blending slapstick, musical numbers, cartoonish villains, and elaborate heists, the film became one of the most famously unconventional and divisive studio movies of the early 1990s.

SR-002 3.1 Wired Listening System by Surplus Research.

What caught our attention was the way the earphones were photographed. Every image feels intentional, communicating a sense of quality before you even learn anything about the product.

What we didn’t expect was for the earphones to be modular. So while they are still built with quality in mind, the components are fully replaceable, meaning you don’t have to purchase an entirely new set of earphones if something breaks.

EIZO, a Japanese company specializing in high end medical imaging monitors, turned the traditional pinup calendar into a clever showcase for its radiology displays.

Sent to medical professionals as a promotional piece, the calendar featured X ray images of pinup models wearing high heels. The images allowed doctors to see the level of detail the company’s displays could reproduce while turning a familiar advertising format into something designed specifically for the medical field.

The campaign played on that contrast, pairing the imagery with the tagline:

“Very popular among craftsmen but quite new for medics: Pinup calendars. At last, one which shows absolutely every detail.”
