Think the world needs an intervention? We do.

Today, we’re launching a new website for a new era of the Equality Fund, a global fund investing in people with local solutions for the world’s most complex problems.

Why now? We have a window of opportunity. As foreign aid systems are crumbling, our model has proven to be durable, unique and robust. We were built for this moment.

Around the world, women are driving climate resilience, strengthening democracy, reducing violence and advancing human rights while remaining underfunded and underacknowledged. Fixing that, with flexible and long-term resources, is a simple but overlooked strategy – until now.

Our gender-aligned investment approach has generated $90 million in cumulative investment returns, which is reinvested into grantmaking and operations, moving money again and again to local leaders driving systemic change in their communities.

⚖️ Building more inclusive societies is hard work. It requires shifting power on many levels – political, personal, cultural, individual. And yet, women’s rights organizations are doing this work, even in an era of backlash. The results of some of this difficult work are published in a new brief covering 2020 – 2025.

✅ A key finding:

Almost 70% of women’s rights organizations surveyed reported outcomes related to shifts in influence, participation and leadership in agenda-setting spaces. For example, increased leadership and representation of women in local governance roles in Serbia and in land justice reform committees in São Tomé and Principe.

“Protecting Gains and Advancing Inclusive Gender Rights” is a companion brief, part of a three-part, evaluation of 40 women’s and feminist funds reported by @impactmapper to show the real-world impact of funds flowed by the Equality Fund.

🌏 What are the real-world outcomes when we flow money to women’s rights organizations working on sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) prevention?

👀 The results are in.

This week, an independent report by @impactmapper examines Equality Fund’s commitment to 40 women’s and feminist funds across six regions over five years, between 2020 and 2025.

Two key findings:
1. Women’s rights organisations (WROs) strengthened survivor-centred services. More than 40% of WROs surveyed were able to strengthen the infrastructure that survivors rely on, including building capacity of health providers, justice and social workers and improving referral pathways
2. Women’s rights organizations actively challenged the harmful norms and stigmas that enable SGBV. Nearly 50% of WROs surveyed used community dialogue and survivor-led storytelling and evidence to dismantle beliefs that keep violence in place and prevent survivors from seeking support

Thank you to all the funds for their participation. Use this report to make the case for women’s and feminist funds and their real-world impact.

This report is one brief in a three-part evaluation. Read “Preventing and Responding to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence”	at equalityfund.ca/resources

🌏 What does a world without bridges look like? Women’s and feminist funds are bridge builders. They are essential infrastructure.

How do we know this?

💡The evidence is in a new evaluation of Equality Fund’s support to women’s and feminist funds by @impactmapper This report, looking at 40 funds, provides evidence for what we’ve always believed:

95% of women’s and feminist funds report they strengthened alliances and feminist movement infrastructure in their regions
This is the core enabling condition for collective action, crisis response, movement resilience, and coordinated advocacy

✅ Local problems are better solved by local organizations. And it is women’s funds that enable this work by being bridges from the global funding to local solutions.

Women’s and feminist funds are essential infrastructure. They are the bridges we need.
