Such an amazing night, being awarded the ‘under the radar student’ award and the Grain portfolio review award.

My project ‘To nanny, Love from ellis’ was such an important piece of work and I’m so proud to have been able to achieve a 1st on my last major project.

The past 3 years have been so challenging but rewarding, I’m so grateful to all my lectures Ravi, Gary, Joe, Nick and Rachel who’s supported me and encouraged my work.

‘To nanny, Love from ellisâ€™đŸ©·
‘To nanny, Love from ellis’ explores my late nan, focusing on her home, being her caregiver and the matriarchal connection of my family across 3 generations of women.

Its is a collection of multimedia work, featuring photographs of my nan’s house and archival images. I decided to create this project beyond the constraints of digital photography, as a handmade, personal body of work . by @equinproduction

For the Platform Monthly this April, we are looking at artist @equinproduction

April 2026

My practice falls within editorial and fine art photography, with my aesthetic heavily consisting of themes around hyper femininity and the colour pink. Similarly, broader ideas which drive my work are subjects within female identity and feminism.

I like to use the stereotypical feminine ideologies, like the colour pink being the face of femininity and include phycological research about my concepts. These themes are always present in every project I create, as I feel the importance of bringing awareness to female issues.

‘Women are deficient’

The purpose of my project ‘Women are deficient’ is to challenge women’s gender stereotypes. Women have been oppressed throughout history fundamentally based on their gender, the idea of women primarily being seen as housewives, was a drive for my work. I thoughtfully gathered all the objects in my work, which were determined by a stereotypical link to women. This allowed me to stage scenarios to create my imagery.

Within ‘Women are deficient’, I portrayed a kitsch style with pink being a leading attribute. Taking inspiration from Juno Calypso using pink to portray femininity links to the stereotypical beliefs around pink being the colour of women. In this project, I had a blue sky to reflect the stereotypical link to blue and the male sex. Also, I used pink and blue pegs, to mirror the colour link with gender.

My title became the talking point of this project as it’s a negative opinion towards women, whereas I’m trying to champion women. ‘Women are deficient’ is a quote by Donald Trump. Using a quote by a man, in relation to my concept, made the title more compelling and suggests that women are still seen as the inferior sex and that sexism is still prevalent even though its form has changed.

Allowing women to move between stereotypes is important but allowing them to be the pink housewife stereotype shouldn’t be frowned upon in society, the same way a woman being the breadwinner rather than a man shouldn’t. Women should be able to live freely without judgement whatever life path they choose. by @equinproduction
