My debut epic dark romantasy is perfect for fans of deep, lyrical prose, layered worldbuilding, and a slowburn yearning against a backdrop of fae courts and political intrigue.

🖤🖤🖤

NOTHING TAKEN THAT ISN'T FREELY OFFERED...

Half-human in a court of vicious fae, every day is a game of survival Princess Maeve knows well–until her father's assassination changes the rules.

In an instant she is no longer the tolerated pet daughter of the king, but a stray in her own home, and the predators begin to circle openly.

HER BROTHER WANTS HER DEAD.

HIS SWORN CONFIDANT WANTS HER BRED.

RUNNING IS THE ONLY CHOICE SHE HAS LEFT.

But running doesn't mean freedom, and when darkness swallows her on the wrong side of a warded wall, Maeve wakes to find herself in a new cage–and this one is watched by a pair of golden eyes.

A vampire. The face of all her nightmares. Soren.

Maeve has every reason to fear him, but it's not his fangs he uses to dismantle her piece by piece–it's truth and choice, and they cut sharper than any blade.

But her brother's ultimatum for her return–or war–forces her back into enemy territory, with Soren at her side, and a dangerous script they both must perform.

The longer they play their parts, the deeper their masks cut, and when the darkness is the only thing shielding Maeve from the violence of her court, it begins to feel like sanctuary–and the only place she's ever truly been fae.

Hello, darlings! 👋 I'm Eremita Gray, indie author of Court of Gilded Shadows, first in my epic dark romantasy series!

I'm a sucker for morally gray heroes who subvert expectations, and anything that explores power dynamics and power exchange, the rebellion against expectations, and desire at its darkest.

But at my core, I love to tell stories about empowerment, and the brutal process of recovering agency. Sprinkle in some magic, fangs, and bloodletting, and, welcome to my world. 🖤 I hope you'll stay a while!

This book is officially writing me. 🙃 These characters have been doing whatever tf they want since about chapter 9. My FMC's pulled out new magic abilities I didn't know about, my MMC's tamed his brat a little TOO hard, and it's basically the "save Bandit" of manuscripts right now (Office fans, iykyk).

My hope is to be mostly done drafting by the end of the month so I can begin recruiting beta readers. 🤞🤞

Shoutout to @writer.friends.challenge for the prompt!

Sometimes I wonder if I am a little crazy for just how loud and real these worlds feel to me. I have laughed and cried and stressed over people and place who literally only exist on paper--and yet they seem to have minds of their own.

What about you? Do your characters and worlds demand to breathe on the page?

Thanks @authoraeams for the prompt!

Happy Halloween from Maeve and Soren! I firmly believe that if Halloween existed in their universe (they have a Midautumn Harvest) they'd have a ridiculous couple's costume, and yes, they are a farmer and her prize chicken because why tf not. 🤭🤭🐔

Anyone remember when #NaNoWriMo was around??? Sometimes I really miss the days before they FAFOed (just Google NaNoWriMo scandal and you'll get all the tea).

Anyone still doing anything similar for November? I know Reedsy and Weeknight Writers over on BlueSky do a thing. Any other good ones? 🤔

Something about a traumatized half-fae princess pretending to be the submissive pet of a powerful vampire so they can infiltrate her brother's court and prevent a war something something something yearning and spice. 🤷‍♀️
