I finally got to pickup my new @ku_cycle yesterday! It's official, I'll be racing as part of their Next Gen Athlete program this year.

Now I get to spend a few months perfecting the setup for IM Texas in April! I can't wait to get this rocketship out on the road.

Talk about getting humbled by the island! Just happy to say that I finished after a sub par build due to injury. I now understand the mystique that is associated with the island and this race, I certainly have some unfinished business out there!

Started out with a swim that I wasn't prepared for; I swallowed too much water and was never able to find a rhythm. 1:09:25

Pretty much as soon as I got on the bike, I started paying for the water I took in. Felt nauseous pretty much from the start and struggled to get in any real carbs. That said, I enjoyed the ride and can confidently say there is a lot of easy time there. 5:12:54

Tried to leave T2 very easy at a 7:30 pace since I was worried about the heat, three lack of nutrition, and the bad ankle. Through about half I was feeling solid, but then got absolutely kicked in the ... coming out of the Energy Lab. I quickly overheated and spent the trip back into town alternating between a slow jog, a walk, and vomiting on the side of the road. 3:47:41

All told I finished in 10:19:31; not my slowest Ironman, but the slowest in a number of years. It's easy to point to everything I wish that I could change, but it was an awesome experience being a part of this event.

I even got to hang out for the midnight finishers and be a part of the closing events with Marilyn! What an awesome finish to the day.

Congrats to everyone who finished, and thank you to all of the volunteers and supporters out on course, it wouldn't be possible without all of you.

The island has been toasty and calls for all of the recovery gear. As an athlete, it is a must to have convenient, travel ready recovery handy.

Preparation doesn't come for free. We are here in Kona. The last several days have been great to enjoy the island and get acclimated.

#IronmanHouston was stacked this year! Glad to make it out, 6th in AG, finish sub9, and secure a spot at Kona for #IMWorlds2026. @ironmantri put on a heck of an event that took a mountain of volunteers. As always, THANK YOU.
