Competed in the Tenka Musou OSG qualifier again this year, took 3rd 🥉 again but with more athletes it was enough to qualify, really happy with my performance overall, the level of competition stepped up quite a bit this year and I was able to have close to a perfect show hitting multiple pr’s

Got the first two logs (125kg, 135kg) - enough for a 3 way tie for 5th

Farmers carry, 45m 140kg then 150kg per hand in 36 seconds a 9 second pr over training, enough for 4th, very tight race for 2nd-4th I was 2.5 seconds behind 2nd - but a huge gap from 1st @ddoggett56 is insane it was awesome to see him finish it in 24 seconds

Axle Deadlift for reps, 7 reps, enough for 3rd, still new to straps (8 training sessions using them?) and had them uneven on rep 1 but fixed it and recovered well

Heading into day 2 I was in 3rd

Stone press- i got 3 reps of the 100kg stone, I expected to place similar to the log, as I had 0’ed 4 of the 6 overhead pressing events I’ve ever done - due to decent strategy and some luck i won my first pressing event ever

Stone to shoulder- I got the 145kg stone relatively quickly to lock in 3rd place and then went for the big stone
The hand holds I found worked great, but when rotating the stone in my lap I lost balance and the stone landed on my leg, nothings broken, we will see soon if there is any other damage 🙏

Thank you for putting on such a great competition @tenkamusou.strongman @nonbei.power @yuma.hata @kazunori.hikida I hope to be back next year!

Got to see quite a few friends from last year and made some new ones. Hopefully I’ll be able to compete in Taiwan and Hong Kong in the future as well.
Got to see Nathan again and meet his wife Julie, that steak restaurant is definitely my favorite restaurant I’ve eaten at through 3 trips to Japan, I’ll see you in November
Got to see Martin again and meet his Wife Momo, they invited me to stay with them in Nagano for a few days after the competition, I really appreciate the hospitality, hopefully I’ll see you at next years competition

Thank you for all the technique help with log and stone to shoulder @martinslicis @romarkweiss see you Sunday

More Stones

The first one has to be the coolest background for stone lifting I’ve ever seen, this had a decent little hike up to it and the stone was in a crater from all the people who had dropped it back down off the pedestal previously which definitely made it tougher
Brynjolfstak is the big pillar one, this was the only one without a marker on google maps, so before the trip I spent half an hour on google street view finding it
Slept in the rental car 5 of the last 6 nights, drove almost 1500 miles to pick up rocks, ended up sort of failing the final one at dritvik, I really wanted to shoulder this but the rain on a smooth stone made it way too hard for me at the time, regardless of the amount of chalk I tried to use, although I did get it high enough to do the feat of strength they list on the board behind them which was to put it on the rock pedestal behind them (about 30” high)
And then did a 750 deadlift at the end of the week at Thors power gym, not bad for car camping the whole week taken in Dynjandi Waterfall by @eric_carlson78

Full lap of Húsafell stone ✅

Northern lights ✅

A day and a half into the Iceland trip and my top two bucket list items are already checked off

Also got to see some cool waterfalls and landscapes, and drive through a cloud I think (could have just been super thick fog)

Húsafell stone notes:

The mud definitely added an extra challenge but with equal weather conditions I think my stone at home is harder than the real one which bodes well for future training

I really Need to train speed on front carries,
My (overly ambitious) goal was 2 full laps as I was kind of inspired by seeing paddy Hanes set a new record by doing 3 1/4 at Iceland’s strongest man this year.
I made it about a lap and a half of total distance in my final training session but I am way too slow to be able to get anywhere near that with a wet and muddy stone. For reference my lap here was slower than Paddy Hanes‘s first two laps combined in his record run taken in Húsafell Stone by @eric_carlson78

Did another powerlifting meet, deadlifts went well, especially on a 3 week prep other lifts not as much
750 flew, 800 may have been too ambitious of a jump but got it close

- other training highlights 70kg one arm snatch, and 110kg muscle snatch, first 400 pound bench hardest bench grind I’ve ever had

Husafell training is going pretty well, found a 400 pound stone with a similar shape to train on and making improvements on the pick, going to Iceland in October to attempt it hoping for at least a full rotation maybe more

Grip strength is getting pretty good as well will get a better attempt at the Thomas inch in about 2 weeks by @eric_carlson78

Went to Japan and competed in a strongman competition, the Tenka Musou OSG qualifier, ended in third place,
Had a great time, Met a bunch of great people from all over Asia, Already beginning to plan another trip to compete with them again, although it may be a while before I can take another vacation, really need more PTO 😔

Day 1-

First event - log press, failed the 125kg log need a lot of work on pressing

Second event - farmers (130kg per hand) and yoke (310kg) medley - won this event with just under 60
meters total then had an asthma attack

Third event - deadlift ladder - I did really poor on this compared to my training, I have been able to hit the 280kg axel deadlift for 3-5 reps relatively consistent and failed to get one when it counted, still ended up in 3rd on this

Day 2-

First event - Chikara Ishi press (Japanese natural stone overhead press) tied for 3rd in this event, got really close to getting the 100kg stone but couldn’t keep my balance and dropped it

Second event - Chikara Ishi to shoulder (Japanese natural stone to shoulder) got the 130kg stone and tied for first, attempted the heaviest stone at 160kg but couldn’t figure out how to even get it off the ground. I love the Challenge that each different stone brings, they are almost like puzzles when you are attempting heavy ones

Tie breaker event - hammer hold - I am so bad at this it was embarrassing

TLDR: I need to improve my overhead pressing as I 0’ed that event, was able to recover and made it back to a tie for second but lost the tie breaker event and ended in 3rd

3rd meet in the books: Kabuki Northwest Showdown

Ended the day with a 1640ish total while going 6/9, Not too bad, but was about 100lbs below my best training total during prep

Squat: 1/3, ended up only getting my opener of 573, 100 pounds less than expected due to some depth issues...

Bench: 2/3, got a state record bench of 347.3 that is a meet PR of 30 pounds

Deadlift: 3/3, pulled a national record deadlift of 325.5kg/717.6 lb that won me a plaque for heaviest deadlift

Shout out to the fellas for supporting on this 12 hour meet day.
