This year for my birthday I wanted to do something I had never done before, something that reminded me I’m alive. I trekked Acatenango Volcano on an overnight hike, climbing the third highest volcano in Central America. It was one of the hardest and most physically demanding things I have ever pushed myself through, but it showed me exactly what I’m made of.

I’m grateful for life, grateful for good health, and grateful for the strength I didn’t even know I had. I feel like I can do anything now.

Fuego erupts about every 20 minutes, and at night the lava lights up the sky. She is huge, powerful, and beautiful. taken in Volcán Acatenango by @ericacanady
