A feast for the senses. For the Heart. Soul. Mind.

Everything fell into place perfectly. Like we were always meant to be there. At the peak of our Europe trip this was the cherry on top. I felt a strong sense of freedom and play, of curiosity and total likeminded connection with a community I had yearned to reconnect with, for years.

I felt the folklore essence so alive in its trickster energy. The duality of light and dark with nothing to fear. A celebration of authentic expression from all unique beings. So much art.

And new music that had me dancing with joy for days.

@modemfestival 🏴‍☠️ 🖤 thankyou for bringing us together. This event felt extra special, having first experienced it at 20 years old where it remained in my memory as something truly magical and pivotal as a young free spirit. 13 years later I’ve returned to this distant dreamscape and what an incredible, extra-ordinary week it was. This land, these frequencies, this international bubble of beautiful connections, art & music have been such a gift to the soul 🤍🪐

A 20min boat ride from Davao city landed us on Samal island. We spent a few days here, just the 2 of us. A beautiful island, small enough to spend a day riding around from coast to coast on the scooty. There are a bunch of resorts, but it’s not so much a tourist destination as it is a home for the locals. My mum spent her teenage years here so it was really special to visit 🤍

Highlights //
• staying at @lavidahostelsamal and meeting local owner/painter Ninio. He’s the first Filipino artist I’ve met and really opened our minds with his intelligence and relationship to the world. An artist who’s medium is life itself
• swimming in turquoise waters even though i had to dodge floating trash
• riding the streets on the scooty collecting smiles and waves
• searching for the best lanzones fruit (which i found here)
• feeling extreme gratitude for my privileges in contrast to the life of the locals where the struggle is real.
• spontaneous annual filipino punk show at the beach
• fish sinigang soup
• sharing it all with my beloved

Visiting family in Southern Mindanao, Panabo city • large volumes of heart expanding moments shared with the growing Caballes blood line • rice and bibingka every day • kareoke • my cousin graduated and I’m so proud of her • humbling observations as a westerner in a developing nation • learning about a culture shaped by years of occupation and Catholicism • shocked by the levels of disparity and poverty • hopeful the younger generations will experience positive change and always have access to clean water, food and safe housing • lifted by daily smiles and dance • grateful to know the motherland a little deeper 🤍

Day 4 of our time in the Philippines with family.
Heart opened and extremely humbled.
Culture shocked but it’s hits different being my mother’s home land. Nostalgic and familiar yet so foreign and far from the west. Memories from my youth resurface. Childhood faces return as adults. We gather and celebrate around food and kareoke. I’m reminded of how large my family is and how hard they work to survive. I connect the dots with stories from my mother. How they led to me being the first Australian born in our Filipino lineage. I know my privilege is a blessing. And now I’m here with my partner, sharing this experience together. So very grateful for it all 🧡

Yesterday’s clay session with @blaze.ceramics 🌀I had the best time sculpting form with soft, patient fingers. A creative solace from working among wax fumes and hard metal. Feeling the excitement of opening the door to a new medium (I have so many ideas that I want to bring to life) Thankyou so much @lil.gumnut for spending the morning with me. grateful for your guidance, company and beautiful studio space!

These pieces (if they make it through firing) will be objects of presentation for an @obsqura_ jewellery market stall coming up next month at @melbourne_renfair !

Thankyou @goldenplainsfestival 🪐
We had such a great time ~ it’s a dream to work and play among your leafy supernatural amphitheatre, eclectic music lineup, crowds, couches and uniquely decorated toilets. Big appreciation to our amazing team who had each day operating so smoothly, to our favourite roti daddy @_thebluhand_ and to all our customers who sold us out of rotis, you’re the best!

Love letters from Aotearoa/NZ.
So easy to feel at home, so hard to leave.
The last few weeks visiting Tom’s family have been absolutely wonderful. 🤍 Tomorrow we fly back to Aus with hearts full of love and a whole lotta wholesome mems.
