This month's Bandcamp Friday haul includes @epicardiectomy.official @disilluminationbandofficial & @dysgnostic

Epicardiectomy's "Dismal Landscapes of Voluptuous Pustular Cadaverosis" is exactly as dumb as you'd expect. Disgusting, simple, brutally ignorant death metal that'll lower your IQ and make you less attractive to women. Highly recommended for fans of Cephalotripsy.

Disillumination's "Distorted Psalms of the Inhumanly Omniversed Consciousness" is Russian blackened death doom that's dark and haunting. It's got a really oppressive vibe that makes the darker parts of my brain grin with malevolence. Heavily underrated band that deserves a much bigger following.

Dysgnostic's "End Whispers" is dissonant technical death metal in the vein of Crown of Madness, Gorguts and Ulcerate. I'm honestly surprised this isn't a Willowtip Records release as it would fit their roster perfectly. Kudos to Kunal from Transcending Obscurity for continuing to uncover the underground's best hidden gems. by @ericcrookes

If you told me 5-10-15-20 years ago that I'd be incredibly sad seeing my nephew on the news, I wouldn't have believed you. If he was going to be on the news, it'd be for his elite athletic prowess. Not this.

We didn't get to say what we really wanted to in court. We had to self-censor and "be the bigger person." I only have one thing to say to each of them. It's a real simple question:

What the fuck did you think would happen, you fucking moron?

IF my nephew had access to his dad's guns, we'd have been in court at his self-defense trials instead of dealing with all of this. Anyone with an IQ higher than their shoe size would have realized that getting shot to death breaking into the house would be their best case scenario. Worst case is exactly what happened.

So. Fucking. Stupid.

We may not have got the justice he deserved, but all four people involved are in jail right now and they'll be there for a while. It's something... by @ericcrookes

Back to court, hopefully for the last time, to conclude sentencing for Rhoda Mboka Diabikulu's involvement in my nephew's murder.

The past 3 years have been surreal.

We moved into the house across the street from my wife's sister before Ryan was born. My wife wanted to be close by to help with the kids and be involved in their lives. When our landlords decided to tear down, we moved next door.

I saw him all of the time. He'd hang out with me after school playing video games while he waited for Mom & Dad to come home from work. We shared a lot of laughs and happy moments together.

I didn't see him as much after we moved to North Van. Hadn't seen him at all since before Covid. I was looking forward to reconnecting when that option was taken from me.

Lots of regrets. Lots of sadness and anger. Lots of numbness.

At least once today is done, I can focus on remembering the awesome kid that he was, instead of how his life was cut short.

I think Meowph sensed my morose mood this morning and decided to cheer me up with a weighted purring fur blanket snuggle session. It definitely helped. Thanks, buddy!

June 29th is the day I hate the most each year.

In 2019, it's the day we lost my Dad to Alzheimer's.

In 2023, it's the day we lost my nephew Ryan in the most senseless way imaginable.

Instead of dwelling on what I've lost, today I'm focusing my attention on fondly remembering my two favorite men in my life, the fun memories we shared and the positive impact they've had on my life.
