ONE WEEK DOWN

The Heart series is officially up and living its best life at Phillips NYC, and will be on view through January 23rd, with the work also shining brightly on the internet via Phillips DropShop, for those who love online shopping and enjoy art with a Wi-Fi connection (link in bio).

Big thanks to Chris and Fiona at Phillips for being great humans and steady hands through the whole process, and to Louisa, who’s been championing my work from the very beginning, long before it ended up on auction house walls. That kind of long-term belief means more than I can say (but I’ll try not to get sentimental here).

Massive shout-out to Robby Klein and his wife Jady for literally getting on a plane and flying to NYC to document the moment. Robby captured the work, the space, and the vibe perfectly, proof that showing up still matters.

Grateful, a little tired, and very happy to see these hearts out in the world. If you’re in New York, go say hi to them. 🖤

Dropshop: Eric Helvie

Dropshop is proud to present an exclusive release by Eric Helvie, featuring a new body of work that introduces a striking visual language bridging art history, biology, and contemporary thought.

Created during Helvie’s five-year collaboration with the Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at Columbia University, the Drop centers around the monumental shaped oil painting Heart (Big Heart), an intricately rendered anatomical heart filled with imagery drawn from Albrecht Dürer’s Northern Renaissance etchings.

This painting is accompanied by Little Heart, a print edition that extends and echoes the complexity of the original painted panel. Eleven prints from the edition have been uniquely hand-embellished with the iconic flora and fauna watercolors of Dürer, including the iconic Great Piece of Turf and Young Hare.

Little Heart (Ears from Young Hare after Dürer)… a single, one-of-one hand-embellished work: furry ears from Dürer’s Young Hare in oil, perched on top of the heart, perked up as if the rabbit just leapt out of frame.

It’s playful, a little strange, and very alive. Old-master detail colliding with an anatomical heart full of tiny worlds and hidden figures.

Last-ditch mode engaged. ☕️🐇
Me, running on coffee and questionable decisions, pushing through an intense deadline to finish the final hand embellishment of Young Hare over the top of Little Heart. Very little sleep, way too much caffeine, lots of tiny obsessive marks.

Every tiny feather, one stubborn stroke at a time. 🪶
Spent two weeks tediously hand-embellishing Wing of a Blue Roller on top of Little Heart because apparently I enjoy making things harder for myself. Not to mention the month or so spent on Great Piece of Turf and Young Hare.

Worth it though, my Little Heart print edition is officially out in the world and available now at Phillips (link in bio) @phillipsauction

The perfect gift for Valentine’s Day if you ask me ❤️😉

Just over a month ago I was in the studio, head down, knee deep in rabbit fur as I wrapped up the final hand-embellished print 🐰

Four months of hand embellishment, one last push. Eleven unique works, each one getting its own attention. A lot of quiet hours, a lot of small decisions.

An anatomical heart layered with Dürer’s northern Renaissance etchings, then taken off-script with hand-painted oil details. This time featuring The Great Piece of Turf, an obsessively rendered tuft of grass, alive with leaves, blades, and quiet chaos.

An anatomical heart packed with Dürer’s Northern Renaissance etchings, then pushed way past the press with hand-painted oil details. Two blazing red peonies lifted from Dürer’s own botanical watercolor. Love letter, no reprints.
