There were tears in my eyes listening to Harry Nilsson in a cab as I crossed the Williamsburg Bridge on the way to the studio. A lot of time and musical becoming had led to that moment… 10 years prior I was just out of college working a job in Gowanus and I wondered if I was close to the mysterious studio where they were making those soul records I heard about. A few years later I was working at a restaurant in LA and the chef would spin Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings 45’s after hours. Much later I heard Rault’s record and thought “Hold up songwriters are in this game too?” Some chance run-ins in California led to all those little threads coming together alongside some brilliant new friends. It was my first time traveling to a recording session - California to NYC. My folks were in town visiting my sister too so it was a formative moment we all got to share together… It’s well known that you don’t cross the same East River twice folks; when that cab rolled back to the East Village my story had found some pages that I felt were always there but now they were lived in. That feeling of the wind hitting your sails is an incredible thing if you can catch it, sometimes it’s not even about catching it, you just have to run right up to it and grasp the wind 🌬️🎶🌌 Many more chapters to this story and you’ll hear them very soon -
