There is something so joyous about our children coming home from college. ❤️💙 We get to hug them, hear about the lives they’re building and simply enjoy having them home.

This visit feels a little different.

After a heartbreaking week for the Ole Miss community, my job this weekend is simple: protect Claire’s peace. Let her exhale, rest, laugh with her sister, eat her favorite foods and rejuvenate her mind, body and spirit before returning to campus refreshed and ready.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out and checked on her. ❤️ Claire says the Ole Miss campus remains strong and students are continuing to move forward.

And while I’m grateful to have my daughter home this weekend, I’m mindful that two families are grieving sons who will not be coming home to them. Our hearts and prayers remain with those families and the entire Ole Miss community.

First Day of School… well, technically she’s already a couple of weeks in. 💙🤍

This school year began differently for Olivia, preparing to send her sister, her built-in best friend, off to college. Watching her navigate that transition has shown me another side of her strength. In her own words, “I have to let her go so she can fly.” 🥹

And while learning what life looks like without Claire right beside her, Olivia has kept moving forward.

She has walked into this school year committed and steadfast. She’s challenging herself academically, maintaining Honor Roll status, working and remaining fully involved in her extracurricular activities. During the first week of school she received invitations to Brentwood Academy’s Honor Society and The National Honor’s Society. ❤️

What touches me most isn’t what she is accomplishing. It’s watching how she is handling a season of change.

She is showing up.

She is accepting the challenge.

She is doing the work.

She is making new memories while allowing someone she loves deeply to begin a new chapter of her own.

Olivia isn’t perfect and she will be the first to let you know that she is a self-proclaimed “spicy hot tamale.” 😂🌶️ But proud doesn’t quite capture what I feel when I think about the privilege of being her mom. If I were given the opportunity to choose my children all over again, knowing every part of who they would become, I would choose her. Without hesitation. Without question. Every single time.

Here’s to a beautiful year, Olivia Grace. Keep working. Keep growing. Keep showing up. Keep being exactly who God created you to be.

“Kind and grounded in integrity, hard working & self aware; courageous & service minded spirit”. Hearing those words spoken over Claire by those who spend an abundance of attentive time with these students praying, mentoring while truly taking the time to known the hearts of these students, deeply moved me. It was a reflection not only of who Claire is becoming, but the heart she has carried through leadership, service, friendships, athletics, theater and daily life. ❤️

Claire, we are incredibly proud of the young woman you are. Your character shines brightly. Watching you walk across that stage surrounded by love, prayer, joy and community was something I will treasure forever.

You are entering the next chapter with the same village that surrounded you when you entered this world and infantry, rich in authentic love, integrity, mutual trust, mutual respect, care, concern and strong sense of loyalty and protection.

Today I stand in deep gratitude, reflection, and humility. What a journey it has been becoming a member of the illustrious sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc..

My sweet Claire,

As you step into your 18th year, I want you to pause and truly see yourself the way I see you. Not just as my daughter, but as a young woman who has already lived with courage, depth, and grace far beyond her years.

You have carried things that were never meant for a child to hold. You have faced disappointment that asked you to grow before you were ready. You have navigated complicated relationships, closed doors, and health challenges with a quiet strength that humbles me. And through it all, you never lost your tenderness. That alone speaks volumes about who you are.

I want you to know this: none of your pain was wasted. God has been shaping you in the unseen moments—building discernment, resilience, and compassion into your spirit. What felt like rejection was protection. What felt like delay was alignment. And every tear you cried planted wisdom you will carry for a lifetime.

There will be moments ahead when you doubt yourself or wonder if you’re enough. When that happens, remember this truth: you are deeply known, fiercely loved, and divinely guided. You do not need to rush your becoming. Heaven is not in a hurry with you.

I am so proud of the way you choose kindness, the way you listen with your heart, the way you keep showing up even when it would be easier to pull away. You are stronger than you realize and softer than the world deserves—both a gift and a calling.

As you enter adulthood, I pray that you always trust your intuition, honor your worth, and never abandon yourself for the comfort of others. May you walk confidently, knowing you are protected, provided for, and never alone.
