The older my kids get, the more I understand this.

They’re allowed to feel annoyed with me. They’re allowed to disagree with me. They’re even allowed to not like me in the moment.

But my job isn’t to make every moment comfortable or make them my friend. It’s to raise them to become responsible adults who can handle boundaries, disappointment, and hearing the word “no.”

I can love them and all their feelings without parenting around them.
