POSTS STORIES REELS

While Africa celebrated Africa Day on the 25th, I had the privilege, as a Danida Fellow, to speak at the #YouLeadSummit26 a gathering that convenes hundreds of young leaders from across Africa.

My remarks focused on the power of access to information as a catalyst for accelerating the SDGs and advancing the vision of Agenda 2063 for the Africa we want.

Together with my fellow 2025 DFC Fellows from Tanzania, following our SDGs learning programme in Denmark organized by @2030beyond , we are taking bold steps to bridge the information gap among young people in Tanzania, strengthen meaningful youth engagement in policy processes, and contribute towards Tanzania achieving the Goals and steadily climbing the SDG rankings. by @erickmallya_

During my participation in the learning program Empowerment of Youth to Influence SDG Implementation, I had the privilege of speaking on a panel discussion titled New, Nuanced Narratives of Africa, alongside distinguished journalists from both Africa and Europe.

In my contribution—particularly addressing the foreign media—I emphasized the importance of promoting Africa’s progress by spotlighting ongoing innovation and transformative efforts across the continent. Such coverage is essential in shaping a more balanced and constructive global narrative about Africa.

While it is understandable—and indeed necessary—for media to cover conflicts, humanitarian crises, and governance challenges, I encouraged a more nuanced approach that does not allow these issues to define Africa’s entire story. These realities matter and should not be ignored. However, they should be complemented with stories of resilience, innovation, and the bold steps young people are taking to solve problems within their communities.

In countries like Tanzania, young people are not only the majority but are also emerging as powerful agents of change across sectors. When foreign media choose to highlight these positive efforts, they become not only observers but also enablers of progress. They help shape a narrative that inspires and connects—one that Africans, especially the younger generation, can turn to for recognition, motivation, and a sense of shared possibility.

Such balanced storytelling doesn't just shift perceptions—it actively supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by fostering local pride, cross-border learning, and international collaboration built on respect, dignity, and shared purpose. by @erickmallya_

Life has taught me that strength is not measured by how much we overcome, but by the humility we carry, the gratitude we preserve, and the hope we refuse to lose. by @erickmallya_

Leaving SVRI 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, thinking about the bridge between research and media and how much more we can do with it.

How we tell the story of our interventions matters: to the communities we work with and to those who fund the work. Preventing violence deserves to be understood as an investment in development.

UZIKWASA joined fellow organizations supported by the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania in Muheza to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child.

With the global theme, “End child marriage and invest in girls’ rights,” girls took centre stage speaking alongside their leaders, championing their rights and sharing their dreams. 💪🏾

For UZIKWASA, our partners and the Embassy of Ireland, the commitment continues beyond the celebration: ensuring every girl is safe, heard and supported to thrive, while building a brighter future for the Tanga region.

From Pangani, Tanzania, to Bangkok, Thailand

UZIKWASA is at SVRI 2026, joining researchers, activists, practitioners and changemakers from around the world to share knowledge, learn from one another, and strengthen action to end sexual and gender-based violence.

At our booth, we are bringing community voices, grassroots evidence and lessons from our work in Pangani because meaningful change is built with communities, not simply for them.

We are here to learn. Connect. Collaborate.

📍 Attending SVRI 2026? Come and visit the UZIKWASA booth.
Let’s exchange ideas, share experiences and explore what we can build together for gender justice and communities free from violence.

From Pangani to Bangkok connecting grassroots experience with global knowledge.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. by @erickmallya_

There is something powerful about watching a shared vision begin to take shape in real communities.

Last year in Copenhagen, together with my fellow DFC Tanzania Fellows, we imagined what it would take to make young people’s voices count in spaces where decisions are made.

Facilitating young people in Pemba on Social Accountability Monitoring (SAM) and Public Expenditure Tracking (PET) has been another step in that journey.

Seeing young people engage leaders, ask questions, participate in accountability forums and find their place in policy dialogue is inspiring.

As @keyjanaimpact takes shape, I’m learning more about connecting community priorities to policy conversations and turning access to policy information into meaningful civic action.

From a shared vision in Copenhagen 🇩🇰 to action in Pemba🇹🇿.
