A few weeks ago, I told you about this denim work jacket I had just acquired, and how I was trying to figure out its origins.
Well, thanks to a collector from Mexico City, I finally got all the answers I was looking for.
So let me introduce you to my 1920s denim work jacket... made in Mexico!

Part 1: Exploring The Avant Showroom

Every garment has a story to tell, and every one of those stories deserves to be told.
In the book dedicated to my archive, I share the story behind each piece in detail: where it came from, what it represents, where it was found, and why it matters. I also dive into the history of iconic American workwear brands such as @wrangler , @thestronghold , The Boss, Underhill, @levis , and Boss Mechanic.
The book was printed in a limited run of 1,500 copies, and only about 500 remain today. It’s available on the AVANT website, theavantmag.com, as well as through more than 100 retailers around the world. You can find the full list of stockists on the website too. taken in Paris by @ericmaggiori

Sarah and I met 19 years ago. From the very beginning of our relationship, we shared the same passion for vintage clothing.

We went vintage hunting in London in 2008, Stockholm and Tokyo in 2009, and then Los Angeles starting in 2010. It’s always been a part of who we are.

After organizing two pop-ups in Paris in 2013 (see last picture!), we almost opened a store. In the end, it didn’t happen.

A few years later, we launched @theavantmag . And now, in 2026, we’ve finally made that dream come true: having a place of our own. A place that truly reflects who we are, where we can share everything we’ve experienced, learned, and collected over the past twenty years.

These first three days of the AVANT showroom being open have been an absolute joy. What I loved most was the diversity of the people who stopped by throughout the pop-up. Longtime enthusiasts, younger visitors just discovering vintage and eager to learn, travelers passing through Paris, neighbors from the street excited to see a new space come to life, familiar faces who have been following us from the beginning, complete strangers discovering us for the first time. There was a little bit of everything, and every conversation brought something fresh and inspiring.

For Sarah and I, that’s exactly what we want the AVANT showroom to be: a place for sharing. A place where people come to see beautiful things, to get inspired, find a great piece, learn something new, or meet fellow enthusiasts. A place where you can walk in, ask questions, and leave with a garment, a story, a piece of knowledge, or a new connection.

So thank you, truly, from the bottom of our hearts. This is a pretty special new chapter for us, and the first few pages we’ve written during these three days of pop-up have made us incredibly excited to write the rest of the story. ❤️

Very happy to have finally met Rikiya « Ric » Kanamaru, the king of Wrangler.
Ric and I have been in touch for years, but we’d never actually met in person. I’ve even interviewed him twice for AVANT. He appeared in both the Western Wear issue and Voices Behind Vintage Clothing.
This week, he’s in Paris to showcase part of his incredible Wrangler collection. I also had the chance to get a copy of his book, Wrangler Archives, complete with a wonderful signed inscription.
