Good Friday we had a special Family Jiu Jitsu Jam. Parents and kids came together to roll together. We had so much fun and finished class with Match in the Middle.

We had an incredible evening on the mat with Sensei Hammer.
Beyond technique, Sensei Hammer spoke about the culture of learning in jiu jitsu. He emphasized how more experienced students sharing their knowledge with newer students helps everyone learn faster and deeper. Teaching, guiding, and supporting each other is part of what makes a strong academy.

He also reminded us that the dojo is our laboratory. This is the place to experiment, to ask questions, and to truly learn. If your only goal is to go hard and focus purely on winning, there’s a place for that too – competition. The academy, however, is where understanding is built.

With our kids, he spoke about the long game of jiu jitsu. He encouraged them to think beyond the next class or the next belt, and to share what they learn with others by helping and teaching whenever they can. He shared his hope of seeing everyone on the mat someday achieve their black belt, while always maintaining a white belt mentality – staying curious, humble, and eager to learn.

We also had the pleasure of celebrating Nate Sloss and Nick Holloway, who both received their blue belts. Their consistency, effort, and enthusiasm on the mat truly stand out. They show up ready to learn, push themselves, and contribute positively to the room, and their promotions are very well earned.

We’re grateful for the knowledge, perspective, and inspiration Sensei Hammer brought to Torus, and proud of the growth we continue to see in our students.

NEW SCHEDULE FOR SEPTEMBER

We’re growing and needed to add a couple more classes to the schedule.

Day time classes are now 12 - 1 PM and Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

Tuesday had some shifts to make room for a second adult class - the Kids Competitive Class starts at 5:30, followed by an Adult BJJ class, then Advanced Adult Class.

New schedule takes effect September 1.

Last Wednesday was a great night of learning , and celebration at TORUS BJJ.
first I want to extend my gratitude to @hammerhache for his invaluable teachings and lessons. Your guidance is always instrumental to my growth and the growth of our team.
