Really excited about this one! This track has been a few years in the making, and I think it’s time to share it with everyone. For this single, I wanted to give studio recording, mixing, and mastering another shot. I’ve recorded and put out demos a long time ago (still up on SoundCloud by the way) back when I was attending the University of New Haven. I had no idea what I was doing back then. It’s crazy to look back on the progress made. I look forward to Friday’s release! Big shoutout to everyone who made this track possible. First and foremost, thank you @justinfroese for giving me an opportunity back in 2023 to record at Studio West for the @soulfulsongwriterscollective record night. (The original rhythm guitar track and BGVs from that night were used in this version.) I was sitting on these stems for too long and I’m glad I opened up the project file in December—it ended up being the catalyst to start recording again. Was glad @joesummersmusic and @elizabeth.bowersox attended that night too (they sang some BGVs!) Thank you! To the homie @kylethekorean for laying down the kit! Kyle’s a talented multi-instrumentalist that plays with great feel and really helped to bring out the song’s personality. To @cpalmer_music for always laying down sexy saxophone lines and being receptive to my musical ideas! To @someguybran for laying down some tasty lead guitar. Strat-maxing at its finest! To @kris_towne at @capricornstudios_ for the great drum recordings. I always love the sound they capture in Studio A! Some of you know I recorded my first EP with Kris, so it felt like good old times getting back in there to record my music. To @heyannastrong for the beautiful album artwork 😍! Anna and I worked together from conception to Adobe Illustrator to bring her hand drawings to life in a digital format. Can’t wait to share more of her art in the future. And to my fellow audio engineer homies who help lend their critical ears on the mix while I was working on it! (Thank you @barbeauaudio @andresalejandrosalomon @jonthefunkymonk and @berecatt for helping me become a better mixing engineer. I respect each of you for all the great work you do.) by @ericneilson
The fire is ready to be lit! After 18 months of tracking, mixing, and mastering, #theartofbuildingafire is finally ready to be released. This whole process has been a rewarding experience! I’ve learned so much in the past year, and I’m excited to show everyone what has been happening behind the scenes. I’m grateful for this debut album because I’ve had so many opportunities to be in the presence of so many amazing musicians, producers, and engineers. Thank you to everyone who helped make this album a reality!! It means the world to me that you all choose to be a part of this personal journey. Shoutout to all these real ones: @kylethekorean @someguybran @jake_najor_drummer @imjsquared @celmermusic @andresalejandrosalomon @kris_towne @trumpetsuazo @adlr85 @jfletcher.music @davyn.wald @xqavy @deci_bill @racheljdk @kayleedaughertymusic @riston.diggs @burnz_one @chloe.gilreath @bigroybrown @bensaxophone @erdiscello @nicohvla @john__talley @tylerwooley_ I appreciate all of the magic you sprinkled into this album! My third single drops next Friday! . . This is one of my COVID-era tunes, written to a prompt provided by Cathryn Beeks’ “The Game.” It’s a song that is my response to chaotic times. Fast forward five years, and it seems those times have not passed. Amidst the white noise that constantly surrounds us, I hope you can find your quiet place. . . Big shoutout to @kylethekorean @kayleedaughertymusic and @davyn.wald for adding their musical talents to this track. Another to @kris_towne for the beautiful mix. And a third to @heyannastrong for the amazing artwork—I can’t wait for the big reveal for the full-length album artwork! The single goes live on 6.20.25. I encourage you all to pre-save it on Spotify if you’ve got it! Can’t wait to perform this live on 6.29.25 at @winstonsob . . PS. My Adobe After Effects skills are seriously lacking, so don’t mind the mid-grade animation. It’s the music and the message that matters. I just whipped this up for posterity for social media. #theartofbuildingafire #newmusic #quietplace #singersongwriter by @ericneilson
