It’s hard to believe today marks one year since I announced my company, @ericobersteinproductions (EOP)! 🎂🎉🎈

I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the journey thus far, and all that’s to come. . I want to thank each of you — for your encouragement, for our chats, and the work we’ve shared (or will share!).

EOP is cooking up lots more, to be unveiled in the coming months. . It would be great to catch up and hear how you’re doing. . If you’re interested in working together, let us know. Invocation is here! The new duo EP by vocalist @vuyosotashe and pianist @chrispattishall. We hope it helps you slow down, breathe, and feel some humanity in these hard times.

It started as a chat among friends early in the pandemic of how we might capture simplicity and radical empathy on record. Several years later, here’s our answer.

Proud to co-produce this with @rafiqbhatia, who also created an incredible soundscape on the mix, in collaboration with Chris.

Special thanks to Harsha Murthy, Matt Merewitz, Stacey Taylor, Yekaterina Gyadu, Joel Johnson, Nate “Thor” Odden, Power Station NYC, Alex DeTurk, Alex Knowlton and Isabel Kim at Joe’s Pub, Danny Melnick and Isabel Soffer at The Local, and so many others who’ve supported this project’s journey.

Two years ago today, I launched Road Openers, LLC at Grantmakers in the Arts Annual Conference in #Chicago during #artsandhumanities month. What an exciting 2 years it's been!

One of the first partners to place their confidence in us & our vision to bring holistic, integrated support to artists & cultural organizations was the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture. OAC engaged us to research, design & deliver a pilot program to support arts & culture organizations through major transformations as they pursue sustainability -- not only financial, but human sustainability. Pathways to Innovation, Vitality, & Organizational Transformation (#PIVOT) is unusual among most support programs I've seen because it:

1) Combines 3 facets of support (whereas I typically see only the first 2 of the following):

--unrestricted, multi-year grants (in this case, large grants of $100-250K *per year* for 2 years

--a cohort experience designed to facilitate peer learning & mentorship for both organizational-level & ecosystem-level transformation

--*wrap-around support* for each organization tailored to them & their particular transformation & that evolves with them over the course of the program

2) Supports organizations of across types, ages, & sizes--small, grassroots orgs, midsized anchors, & large institutions--incl. theatre, dance, literary, film, cultural heritage, & multidisciplinary orgs, throughout Seattle

3) Welcomes the uncertainty inherent in transformations & aims to collaboratively navigate & adapt with the PIVOT cohort members

Nearly 1.5 years into this work, & about 6 months into the 2-year cohort program, I'm so impressed by the vision, dedication, artistry, leadership & partnership exhibited by these organizations!

I'm grateful for our partners at OAC, esp. Alex Rose, Cristina Cano-Calhoun, Ele Watts, Kathy Hsieh; our developmental evaluator partner Yve Susskind of Praxis Associates; & my Road Openers teammates who have been on the PIVOT journey: Stacey Breakall, Hillary Hittner, PCC, CarlosAlexis Cruz, Usha Srinivasan, Eric Oberstein of Eric Oberstein Productions, & Lord Cultural Resources

My life changed when I filled out an audience response card at a concert by Arturo O’Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra at Symphony Space in NYC.

Loved being at @georgemasonu for ARTS by George!, spending time with my @amgtgmu and @gmu_cfa colleagues, and seeing the students from the College of Visual & Performing Arts share their talents! Was a treat to see @jeffgoldblum perform, too! The event raised important funds to support the arts at George Mason. Not everyone knows that in addition to my work in arts management and producing, I play alto sax and drums. It’s what got me into all of this in the first place. :) I’m grateful to my dad for getting me off on the right foot with my CD collection as I started playing music.
