I’ve been really curious about my family history lately! I already knew I had African, indigenous, and European roots, but now I’m super excited about my results. It’s awesome to find out I have even more cool mix in my background!

Both my parents are from Honduras and my family got a mix of Spanish European, African and indigenous roots. It’s important to remember that when the Spanish came to Central America, they brought Africans along because the indigenous population was really suffering from starvation and diseases they introduced. My dad has a bit of everything in his background, On my mom's side, She has indigenous and African heritage; my grandmother might be indigenous, but I'm not entirely sure since I don’t know what she looks like. My grandfather on my mom’s side had another family, so that makes it a little tricky to trace.

Discovering my history and roots really excites me. I feel like I have a better understanding of who I am now. With all the ups and downs I've experienced, I can share my story with my kids and let them know where they come from and who they are.

I really want to go to Central America, but I can’t go. I owe a thousand dollars in child support, so I can’t get my passport or even visit my mom. She’s over there, and it’s been forever since I saw her since I was just a little kid.
My dad is from Yoro Honduras and my mom is from San Francisco Atlantida Honduras!

Mr. Ludwig van Beethoven’s music made him accepted but he felt the pangs of rejection. He taught me that adversity is the mother of creativity. Embrace adversity because through adversity you will create more and find out more about who you really are. by @ericpapi713_

1. The 16th-Century Spanish Colonial Period
• Initial Arrival: Africans first arrived in the region during the early 1500s, with records noting African soldiers participating in Spanish expeditions as early as 1524

Forced Labor: By the mid-16th century, hundreds of enslaved Africans were brought to areas like Olancho and the Guayape River to work in gold washing, mining, and construction.

Fort Construction: Between 1750 and 1779, larger groups of African slaves (including Carabali and Kongo/Mondongo peoples) were brought in by the Spanish to build the San Fernando de Omoa Fortress, which remains a major historical landmark on the coast.

2. The 1797 Arrival of the Garifuna
• Deportation by the British: The second major influx occurred in 1797, when the British forcibly deported several thousand Black Caribs—now known as the Garifuna people—from the island of Saint Vincent to Roatán Island off the coast of Honduras 🇭🇳

Roots of the Garifuna: The Garifuna are descendants of West African and Central African people who survived shipwrecks or escaped slavery on St. Vincent and intermarried with the local indigenous Arawak and Carib populations.

• Settlement: From Roatán, the Garifuna quickly moved to the Honduran mainland, establishing fishing and farming communities along the Caribbean coast. April 12th is celebrated annually as Settlement Day to mark their arrival.
