There’s a moment in every scene where it stops feeling like acting…

and starts feeling real.

This is one of those moments.

A short piece from a longer scene.

Full scene coming next.

🎬 BEHIND THE SCENES — DEAD RECKONING

Sometimes reality gives you something you could never plan.

While filming a pivotal scene in Dead Reckoning, our characters are caught in an approaching storm and clash over the best course of action for the crew.

And then an actual storm rolled in.

The boat was rocking five or six feet from side to side, and Bobbie Lee Jr. became genuinely seasick. Between takes, he’d go to the railing, get sick, come back—and do another take.

What fascinated me was watching how that experience changed his performance each time.

And because acting is about listening and responding to what’s actually happening in front of you, his performance began changing mine.

Take after take, I found myself responding to him differently—feeling something toward his character that I hadn’t necessarily planned. And ultimately, that affected the way the scene unfolded.

That’s one of the things I love most about acting. You prepare, you make choices, you do the work—but then you have to be willing to let all of that be affected by the person standing across from you.

Sometimes that’s where you find the truth you weren’t looking for.

A little behind-the-scenes look at bringing Dead Reckoning to life. 🎬

Happy 90th Birthday, Dad! ❤️

I’m so proud to be your son. Erin and I love you so much.

Thank you to all of our family and friends who joined us in making this incredible milestone so special and memorable.

One of Dad’s favorite quotes is, “My friends have made the story of my life.” I know how much it meant to him to have so many of the people he loves there to celebrate with him—friends and family alike.

Here’s to 90 incredible years, Dad, and to many more happy, healthy years and wonderful memories together! ❤️ taken in Phoenix, Arizona by @ericstjohnofficial

Acting and martial arts have always felt remarkably similar to me.

In both, you are the instrument — body, mind and spirit.

You train. You prepare. You repeat until technique becomes instinct. And when the moment comes, you let it go and allow yourself to be completely present.

Prepare completely. Then let it go.

From The Page – Episode 5 🎬

Every actor develops their own process. This is mine.

For Dead Reckoning, my character Dave speaks on nearly 50 pages of the screenplay. My goal is never to think about what comes next—it’s to be completely present so every line comes from genuine thought and emotion.

In this episode, I take you behind the scenes and show you exactly how I prepare: rewriting every scene into a single character monologue, learning the dialogue from my iPhone Notes, and building the foundation that allows me to stay connected to the moment when the cameras roll.

What’s your process for mastering a difficult skill? I’d love to hear it below.

🎬 FROM THE PAGE – Episode 4

Before I ever think about performance, I begin by discovering who the character really is.

I read the screenplay multiple times, searching for the clues the writer left behind—what the other characters say to him, what he says to them, and perhaps most importantly, what they say about him when he’s not there.

That foundation becomes the source of every creative choice I make—from the character’s inner life to his physicality, relationships, and emotional truth.

Then the director becomes the tuning fork, helping dial in the tone of both the film and the character until everything serves the same story.

That’s my journey from screenplay to screen.

FROM THE PAGE • Episode 3

One of the most rewarding parts of acting is discovering the person behind the words.

Long before the camera rolls, I spend time building the character’s inner life—exploring who they are, where they’ve been, and what shaped them before the story even begins.

Here’s a look at part of my process while preparing to play Dave.

This is where the journey begins. taken in Los Angeles, California by @ericstjohnofficial

Every film begins with an idea… then a screenplay… and finally a day when those pages start coming to life.

This episode takes you behind the scenes of another day on set—from arriving on location to filming scenes that will become part of the finished movie.
