MY FIRST MARKETING CONFERENCE PRESENTATION @motionapp_ CREATIVE STRATEGY SUMMIT IS THIS THURSDAY JUNE 25 @ 3PM ET. LINK IN BIO!

This one is personal.

March 2020. Four months into my first real agency job, every client was churning or pivoting to „click and collect” because the world was shutting down. My grandfather just died, I was the new guy, and everyone around me was getting laid off. I kept my job, barely. I watched YouTube tutorials between client meetings, pitching strategies I’d taught myself hours earlier, and found real wins launching ads for @acehill and @cottagesprings in a pandemic.

Then I found a community of media buyers on Clubhouse (RIP), back when „creative strategy” wasn’t even a mainstream term. I took real notes and built relationships with people like Savannah Sanchez, @DaraDenney and @iamnickshackelford. I moved to @oliver_agency, pitched social for @molsoncoors, earned a couple of CLIO Awards, then jumped to @hellodapper (remember NFTs?????), only to get laid off a second time😅 It pushed me deeper into the thing I loved, and was good at: paid social.

@ezmediaaa was born four days later. Three years as a solo founder, where every dollar a client handed me felt like a vote of confidence in skills I’d spent years building. Small budgets, real mandates, from serious people who expected results. That’s where I learned what it really meant to put my name on my work. It’s why my company carried it.

Today I run paid social at @wisprflow, an AI company I believed in enough to be a customer before I joined. Our daily budgets look like my old clients’ quarterly spend, I have actual genius colleagues, and I help launch 500+ ads a month.

And here’s the part that still gets me: five years after taking notes in those Clubhouse rooms, I’m on the same speaker lineup as Savannah Sanchez, one of the people I first learned the game from. Full circle.

Thursday, June 25, 3PM ET. I’ll be chatting with @_joshlevine of @manychat. Come watch, come heckle. You can’t hurt my feelings, I work in social media, baby. RSVP in my bio. 🙏 taken in Los Angeles, California by @ericzawo

ezmedia turned two.

Two years ago, I faced two big setbacks in a single week: I was laid off for the second(!) time in my career while at Dapper Labs, and I got broken up with over text message in my 30s…

It was a tough moment, but I was fortunate enough to be with an amazing therapist who, based on her previous career, was as much a business coach as they were a mental helper 🥲 and she was the one to let me know that, in the face of these two big problems, I had “permission” to do what I always wanted to do.

That day, I registered www.ez.media and I spent two weeks writing a business plan, dreaming big, and setting goals.

Having seen different paths to entrepreneurship, I realized there wasn’t much separating me from the founders I admired.

And so, ezmedia was born: a culture-facing, social-first marketing agency to help brands, artists, startups, and more communicate better online.

The past two years have been the fastest and hardest working of my life. From launching global campaigns during the pandemic to navigating the NFT space, nothing in my career compares to the challenge and reward of building my own company from scratch.

There were a LOT of lessons learnt, and every day you have to smile, leave the previous day’s bad news behind, and believe in yourself. A tough lesson in persistence that is a daily practice.

And despite all the setbacks, the challenges, the letdowns, the hardships, building ezmedia, and working with my AMAZING partners and clients has been by far the most rewarding adventure I’ve ever been on.

My work brought me all over the world, and even though two years have gone by, I really feel like we’re just getting started.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: If I can do it, you can too. Be willing to fail, learn relentlessly, and never let anyone tell you it’s impossible. You decide your path.

Finally — study, study, study. If you’re lucky, you’ll meet and follow people online who do what you want to do and are willing to help and post all day about their skills. You really can learn anything online. Go get it.

Looking forward to continuing to build brands and grow businesses in 2025 and beyond.
