A proper TA-DAAA moment! 🎺✨
My illustrations are now covering the front of Edinburgh’s @usherhall as part of the @rsnoofficial Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s 2026:27 season campaign.
It’s quite difficult to describe the feeling of seeing drawings that began at my desk appearing at this enormous scale!

A pitch illustration created for @aka_nyc for A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical.

The brief was to highlight his iconic sparkly red jacket ✨

I let the red brush strokes and white splashes carry the energy, while leaving much of the portrait as untouched paper.

Sometimes what I don’t draw is just as important as what I draw.

One of my recent private commissions.
The brief was beautifully simple - create a dragon that felt both strong and elegant.
Rather than describing every scale, I wanted the movement of the brush to carry its strength, leaving space for the viewer’s imagination.
Ink on paper with a touch of soft pink.

I’m honoured to see one of my illustrations featured by the @theaoi in their latest article exploring fresh approaches to young adult fiction and classic literature.

One of the things I enjoy most about illustration is its ability to support visual storytelling - helping readers connect with a story before they’ve even read the first sentence.

People often ask about my pen and ink technique, but one thing that surprises them is that I don’t always create an illustration on a single sheet of paper.
.
For this artwork, the foreground drawing and background wash were created separately before being combined into the final piece.
.
Working this way gives me the freedom to adjust atmosphere and composition while keeping the final line drawing clean and expressive.
.
By the time I reach for the pen, I’ve usually spent much longer thinking than drawing.
.
That’s become my favourite part of the process.
.
Translate first. Draw second.
.
(Bonus points if you spot my studio assistants... 🔎🐾😆)

Over the past few years I’ve had the pleasure of illustrating Yale University’s student life—capturing everyday moments across one of the world’s most iconic campuses.

From late-night study sessions to campus traditions, shared bikes and historic architecture, each drawing celebrates the atmosphere and character that make Yale unique.

I always enjoy projects where illustration becomes part of an organisation’s identity and continues to be used for years after the original commission.

Seeing all the stories about Scottish supporters bringing a warm welcome wherever they travel reminded me of this illustration I created for ReelTime Band.

The brief was to capture some of the sights, sounds and characters that people around the world associate with Scotland - traditional music, the Edinburgh skyline, the iconic Forth Bridge, and of course a couple of Highland coos.

Created in ink and watercolour, this piece was designed to celebrate the colour, culture and spirit of Scotland. 🎨

I’ve always enjoyed drawing musicians.
There is something fascinating about trying to capture movement, concentration and personality with just a few marks.
.
This portrait of double bassist Wun Chen was created in pen and ink, using a combination of fine line and brushwork to suggest both the musician and the instrument without over-describing either.
.
Sometimes the marks left out are just as important as the ones put down on the paper.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s 2026–27 season launch on Friday evening 🎉

It was such a special moment to see the illustrations in the space, installed across the venue and experienced by a full audience.

I created a series of musician portraits for the season - capturing movement, energy and personality through ink and colour. Seeing them at this scale, and in context, was something I won’t forget.

The evening also featured a brilliant performance, which made it even more memorable.

Thank you so much to the @rsnoofficial team for the opportunity ✨
