Last week was my last week in C-Pod Emergency Department.

It’s been a bumpy road just to get to the starting line of my nursing career. Eight years after a denied request to change majors (love army), a business degree I’m now genuinely thankful to have, delays due to multiple active duty orders, I started my nursing career at Vanderbilt… in Tennessee of all places lol.

I came to Nashville thinking I’d stay for two years max. Instead, C-Pod stuck its claws in me (gratefully).

Over the last three years, this unit challenged me more than I ever expected. I’ve gained lifelong friendships, learned from incredible nurses, physicians, care partners, and support staff, and had the privilege of caring for patients during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Emergency nursing gives you a front-row seat to humanity. Every patient and every coworker has forever changed me.

I’m proud of how this chapter played out. I’m grateful for the opportunities C-Pod gave me. From becoming a Charge Nurse and Patient Flow Nurse early in my career, serving as one of the Adult Hospital Nurse Staff Council Chairs representing nearly 9,000 nurses, receiving DAISY recognitions and a Good Catch Award, and even having the chance to share my story through Vanderbilt News—it is a beautiful gift to be seen, and C-Pod is quick to shine the light on you. Every opportunity pushed me to expand, and I was never alone during my expansion.

Nursing is exhausting. It’s fast, unpredictable, and half the time I feel like I’m being pranked lol. Between the ED and serving as an Army Company Commander, this season of life has pushed me more than any other. As hard as it’s been, I wouldn’t trade starting my nursing career anywhere else.

To everyone in C-Pod—thank you. Thank you for teaching me, trusting me, laughing with me, crying with me, having my back, and creating light out of darkness. You’re magic, and your labor matters.

I won’t be going too far—just five floors up. I’m excited to be joining the Cath Lab/ Procedure side and to see what this next chapter brings. I’ll always be proud to say C-Pod is where I became a nurse. by @erik_glover

I think the word for my next decade is “surrounded”. And when I look throughout my life I always find love surrounding me. In the most unexpected environments, situations, and people. I see friendships, family, and connection. It’s a busy season of life currently and I’m continuing to learn how to balance it all gracefully. I want to share to my friends/family that have showered me in love this week from afar & up close - that I see you, I see your love, and I’m forever molded by it. I hope the next decade tells the same story of friendship, family, finding love in strangers, and having a little too much fun on dance floors. taken in Nashville, Tennessee by @erik_glover
