This painting is the center piece for my new solo show called ( Dream a little dream ) , at @futurefwdgallery gallery.
I decided a while ago I wanted to make a painting that includes some of my friends and big inspirations art , all legends by the way .
My life has been a rollercoaster ride , ups and downs the entire way.
These cats all have been on that ride with me all the way , in one way or the other.
This body of work started with painting one Fraggle for some one I care for deeply , and that painting took me all the way here , I am greatful for this.
I hope you enjoy the new work.

Show of the month: ERIK FOSS - Dream a Little Dream @futurefwdgallery

Erik’s history with Blurring Books goes back a long way. We published his beautiful monograph “Twenty Twenty - A Year in Pictures“ but even before that, he’s been included in every one of @dbBurkeman’s books, including histories of stickers, album covers & smiley faces.

In Dream a Little Dream, Erik Foss explores the elusive nature of memory through a series of dreamlike paintings that blur the boundaries between nostalgia and popular culture. Using airbrush and acrylic paint, Foss creates hazy, atmospheric portraits of familiar characters from Fraggle Rock, juxtaposed with sharply rendered, hand-painted stickers depicting iconic figures such as Garfield, SpongeBob, and Tony the Tiger. Through these playful yet evocative compositions, Foss reflects on the imagery that shapes our collective childhood memories and the ways in which familiar cultural symbols endure, transform, and fade over time.

I worked on these painting for almost 6 months , one of the most chalanging shows I’ve ever made.
This being my tenth solo show and second solo show in nyc , it’s by far one of the heaviest.
Inspired by a painting I made a couple years ago for some one that I loved dearly , and starting the show right after my mom passed , this show couldn’t have been heavier .
It helped me heal , in helped me evolve , and it saved my life .
Thank you @toddjamesreas and @erikparkerstudio for introducing me and my work to @toddkramer , and thank you mister Kramer for having faith in me , I look forward to the future ( pun intended ).

The sense of memory Erik Foss conjures here is laced with the bittersweet and psychologically fraught aftertaste of nostalgia. It is a place he reminds us that we can never quite inhabit, akin to the German idea of Sehnsucht, a longing and yearning for an impossible ideal or dream. The word nostalgia was in fact originally coined by a psychologist to describe a kind of crushing homesickness that can kill you with sorrow. Recovered from the dreams of his youth, painted while his mother died, nostalgia here is not just to be homesick, it is the opposite too, the Fernweh, a “far-sickness” or “distant pain,” we recognize in the shimmering visage of that we cannot touch, a memento mori for the quiet death we all know in the simple truth that we can never go home again.

“ The specificity of Erik Foss’ cultural references is not incidental. Like a good DJ he knows far better than playing the obvious hits but relies instead on a degree of curiosity and openness in his audience to advance the lesser-known gems that are all the more remarkable and mind-blowing for their unsung genius and arcane glory. And this works here, not just because Erik is cleverer than the usual retro kitsch appropriated into contemporary pop as the easiest, most hackneyed way of manipulating sentiments, but because Fraggle Rock is no more the subject of these paintings than the myriad cartoon characters and logos from the worlds of music, comics, animations and other childish entertainments that appear like trompe l’oeil stickers as if affixed and abraded by time on the surface of these works. Resembling stickers, exactly with great realism though they are in fact painted, they mimic the ways in which this popular medium has long functioned as an identity-defining adornment on the surfaces of kid’s lives. It’s this resemblance that offers the meaning here, regardless of whether you recognize Black Flag, Elmer Fudd or Mr. Natural, because Erik Foss is addressing the potent and slightly polluted nature of memory itself rather than the details of what is remembered.”

It’s not every day one has the privilege of showing a drawing in a castle built in the 13th century in northern Italy !

Sometimes one makes something and it hides for a while , this would be one of those paintings.
It’s just been placed in its new home and I am very amped to finally share it with the world.
Completing this monster in early September of 2025 , it was very difficult not to show it off as it holds so much emotion .
Shortly after starting this painting I found out my mom was put on hospice , from there her health deteriorated and then passed shortly after. Between mamma foss leaving this plane , loosing about 10 homies to all sorts of fun horrors , and some other very painful loss , this series maybe the most honest reflection of the past 12 months.
This painting and series got me through one of the more chalanging seasons for sure.

The title says it all -
