mr. leroy, all my life you have been there. i don’t remember a time in my life without you. to everyone else you may have simply just been the mailman, but to me you were like a grandfather. one of my earliest memories was running up to you with homemade christmas cookies and giving you a hug while you dropped off our mail.

for the life of me i have no idea why you chose me to be your “protégé” as you would always call me, but i am so grateful you did. you always saw the best in me, you never forgot a single birthday, you visited us on many christmas’s and you were never empty handed.

you always believed in me, you always told me i was destined for great things. but you were the great one, always helping other people, taking care of those who needed and always kind. you always told me it’s easy to be kind, easy to be a good person. and you were the best person i have ever known.

you always supported my dreams no matter how big they were, you always told me to chase the stars and to never look back. you always said you would see me do big things one day and say you knew me when. i hope i am making you proud, i will continue to think about you daily. i am the woman i am today because of you. i will forever be blessed to call you my chosen family, thank you for choosing me.

when you are grieving someone you love, everyday can feel like a challenge, everyday can feel heavy. grief isn’t something you grow out of, it’s stays with you and you grow around it. these kids are the strongest children i’ve ever met, they come to camp feelings heavy and leave feeling a little lighter, knowing they are never alone in what they are going through.

we are all missing someone, we are all a little heartbroken, but with love and support we all get put back together, we are still strong, we are still whole even with parts of us missing or cracked.

i thank God everyday for camp new dawn and the family i have become apart of. i am truly blessed to be apart of something so beautiful❤️ taken in Camp Pecometh by @erin.bowen21

so grateful to have been apart of such a life changing camp. camp new dawn is such a beautiful camp to help grieving children find ways to cope and find a new normal. this has been the best thing i have ever been apart of and i am forever blessed to now be apart of the camp new dawn family❤️ taken in Camp Pecometh by @erin.bowen21
